I don’t know! We already have just slats and it’s too tall

Tape off or otherwise do some sort of resist on the area you don’t want the bleach to go and the stripe will be safe. Kinda like super intentional bleach dyeing

One part bleach to ten parts water should do it. Then rinse.

Does anyone have a hack to keep the crumbs from the bottom of the bag of cereal out of your bowl?

Scooping with your hand and letting the crumbs fall through? Using a sifter? I use the former for the cuckoo’s Cheerios.

The XFP, in contrast, considered the bottom of his Cinnamon Toast Crunch to be the most desirable portion, which is why he got so upset if someone ate it

I currently sift with my hand, which is fine but I thought maybe someone had a better idea.

Every time I see cinnamon toast crunch I think of your ex and shake my head.

I pinch the bag almost all the way closed and shake it over the trash, so the crumbs exit. But it’s not a hack, just my way. :joy:

I mean I use a food sieve thing (like a fine mesh colander?) for getting puzzle dust out of a new puzzle, can’t see why it wouldn’t work for cereal.

How about using a tea ball as the scoop? Like the metal strainer kind

Anyone have opinions about garbage disposals/garborators?
Ours is leaking in a way that the internet suggests it’s just time to replace. It was in the house when we bought it in 2017 so this is our first time dealing with this.

Our rough plan is buy one and try to find a handy person to install it.

But what one?
Insinkorator seems to be The Brand but there are others. And how much power v cost?

Opinions welcome.

Assuming you’ve been happy with its behavior up until this point, I’d just get another of the size you have (1/3hp is pretty standard, maybe 1/2 if you grind up a lot of stuff). Obviously make sure it’s going to fit in your cabinet size, but brand-wise I know I helped parent install some version of insinkerator maybe two Christmases ago and haven’t heard of any issues (not sure how much comparison shopping happened, I think they just went to Lowes and took what the salesperson suggested), and another friend did one around Thanksgiving last year (he does comparison shop) and the only annoying thing was that there was no power cord included…no idea if that was supposed to be the case or if their box was just missing one. Install is really easy, though, two people help, but it’s just a matter of fitting it into place and tightening it down.

Honestly it’s been kinda mid for like (3) years so we’re not shocked it’s died lol. Good to know about the 1/2 v 1/3!

We got a Waste King in our current place (don’t know the size) and it’s been fine. My partner installed it by himself in…15-30 minutes I want to say? After maybe watching a video or two to get an idea of the process.

I’ve also helped install Insinkerators in our old place, and it was quite easy. The hardest part in that case was removing the old garbage disposal, which had been there so long it was a bit stuck.

HM! I have zero plumbing experience and am not handy.

Do you still think I’m qualified?

Normally partner would do, but of course timing is terrible and she is going out of town tomorrow. So I’m point.

My partner and I also had zero plumbing experience, and I would not say we’re particularly handy :joy: I do think my partner watched a couple of YouTube videos beforehand, so you could watch a few and see if it makes sense to you. And do note that if there is a leak/you do something wrong, it will be very obvious lol. Just make sure that you have a pan underneath to catch drips during the process, and you can keep one underneath afterwards to make sure it’s not leaking.

The most annoying thing (for myself and for my partner in our different installs) is working in a tight-fitting kitchen cabinet. If you have a super dodgy back I might not recommend it, but otherwise I’d say it’s fair game!

The disposal could be clogged. Also, there’s probably a reset switch somewhere. It might stop working due to the clog. Once unclogged and rest it might work.
But, when I think of the ick that comprises the clog - I’d happily pay for a new one. :sunglasses:

I dont THINK it’s clogged. It still works . But It’s leaking in a way the Internet suggests some internal gaskets are shot
But I am no expert!

I did a little more poking around under the sink and it looks like our particular garbage disposal is wired in rather than having a regular plug. I am a great deal less confident replacing something where I have to do wiring or anything with electricity beyond just plugging in something. I think I should go the paying people to do this route unfortunately. If it was a plug I think I would be confident enough to do it.
