Question for the group: My daughter tested positive on a rapid strep test on Tuesday. They prescribed antibiotics but also sent it for a culture. I just got the results back for the culture and it says “no growth”. I’m assuming that means she doesn’t actually have strep and therefore I stop giving the antibiotics, correct?

This is a question for the doctor because it could also mean that something screwed up the test/culture.

I was gonna say. My gut reaction is do not stop until the doctor says so. Stopping antibiotic courses is a potentially big deal. Best done with guidance.

The doctor said that there is a small chance that the rapid test could be a false positive. She said that the infectious disease doctors requested that they send it for a culture to confirm that it was truly positive. However, she had us start the antibiotics in the meantime based off the assumption that she did have it. I’m just assuming that if the culture is more accurate than the rapid test, and the culture is negative, then giving her the antibiotic might cause more harm than good? This is her 3rd one in 3 weeks.

I tried to email the doctor but you have to choose the “category” for your email and this question doesn’t fit any of the categories. I guess I can call and try to talk to a nurse? The rapid test and culture were done at urgent care, not the peds office. I’m not sure if the ped will even see it or be notified about it.

I also just tried to talk to a nurse via the online portal and once again my question doesn’t fall into any of the categories.

Does the category actually matter? For everything except like billing and scheduling all mine go to the same place. I would just pick one arbitrarily. Or, call! They’re there to help.

Is having a price book app worthwhile if you shop at several grocery stores? Does anyone have one they like?

I didn’t realize there’s apps for this. I just use google sheets.

I got two wicker ottomans to replace the coffee table, (definitely not going to be baby friendly). But now I’m rethinking that idea and wondering if I can weather proof the ottomans and use them outside instead. Anyone done something similar? Is there a spray or something?

The topic is now… topical.

Topical is the word I was looking for.

Apparently it wasn’t coming up as a synonym for “relevant,” “timely,” or anything else I tried because it’s not in the thesaurus. WTF, Merriam-Webster, you have failed me.

Thank you for following up on this, I have been wondering!!!

That’s a new usage to me! When i see topical, i think about something applied to the skin.

How much do you pay for a haircut?

Approx 100 with tip? Maybe 115 if it seemed tricky?

This is probably related to why I don’t do hair cuts regularly

I pay for groups of 3 to get 15% off, so it’s $71 per haircut as the base cost. I tip in addition.

$75 before tip, but I have tricky hair so I have to be picky about who cuts it

$30 including tip from great clips because my hair does what it wants anyways and I’m just here for the ride

Mostly don’t (haven’t had a cut I didn’t do myself since before the panini), but when I do I go to the beauty school where it’s $25 plus tip and takes a looong time.

I am going to a “fancy” salon because I had a pixie cut and wanted the same person to cut it every time.

Now I’m growing it out so I’m only going in every 6 months or so, but I’m also getting highlights, so it’s like $250  Trying to decide if pink hair is worth the $.
