Okay in the meantime does anyone want to tell me why Norah Jones “don’t know why” and Alex Clare “treading water” remind me so much of each other? :joy:

Ok pals. As @noitsbecky mentioned before, I am the quintessential Mouse from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

So. I got a mini fridge for upstairs and it is fantastic. Best acquisition in quite a while, especially since it was FREE.99. Only problem has been an increase in my soda consumption, because that is what is in the fridge. I drink water semi unwillingly. It must be icy cold or I need to add flavourings. Mini fridge does not have an ice maker. It does have a small freezer compartment.

I am now on the hunt for ice trays! Requirements: easy to fill and get ice out. Ice will fit in the mouth of my insulated bottles (must be less than 1.3". I would also like a bin or something for the made ice to live in while I make more ice. More than one ice tray would be great because then I can make different ice flavourings.

Also must be not too expensive.

What are y’all’s go to ice trays?

Oxo has silicon ice trays that sit in a plastic frame, also has a lid. I saw somewhere that these had gotten a high rating - but I don’t remember where I saw that (America’s test kitchen?). Oxo kitchen products are often highly ranked.

I got the Oxo one and it hurt my hands.
Then I got a silicone one with a rigid plastic frame that is a different shape from the Oxo one, and it works great without hurting me.
I suggest you go to target.

The one I have is similar to this.

the green part is silicone, I push down on the tray with my body weight against the counter and the ice pops up. No twisting or hand strength needed.

I have the same kind, I think mine were from Amazon. They are nice because the cubes are small and fit in small water bottle mouths, and they pop out easily

No specific product reccs but ice seen some that make more like ice rods rather than cubes, so they for into the mouth of a water bottle more easily.

When I sprained my thumb joint in college and had cheap shitty ice trays, I just moved to a tiny bit of water run over the back then bonking it on the counter upside down to empty. Worked pretty well, as long as I didn’t overdo it they wouldn’t freeze back together. Then I’d just have them in the bin I could grab from.

Those molds are also great for filling with melted chocolate or butter when you want to be fancy or add whimsy!

Just out of curiosity, what do you all use ice for? I don’t think I’ve made ice in over 20 years!

To make my water cold.
To eat
To lick
To hand to teething babies

I personally don’t like ice water, but my children constantly beg for “icy water”.

I don’t like ice water but we use it for making cocktails and for applying ice bags to toddler boo boos.

Same. I use ice daily to make my water as cold as possible for drinking.

Ice trays can also be used to prep smoothie ingredients or make flavoured slushes or oil and herb cubes to have ready for cooking.

Hi y’all.
I posted a little rant about this in my journal, but thought I would ask the general collective here as well.

I am coming off of two days of PTO, and the absolute, deep existential dread of having to go back to work feels like it’s actually suffocating me :pensive:
I’d love some perspective/insight.

longer explanation

I have to go back to work after lunch today.

I HATE THIS.

Do most/all people feel this way?
I’ve never had a job (working for others) that I wanted to go to. Ever.
Maybe there was a honeymoon period when I first started, but I’ve always, every single time, settled into this deep deep deep dread related to work.

I’m genuinely curious if there’s a solution for this. I feel like it can’t go on like this. I can’t, at this age, keep living like this.
It seems like, until I get more money saved up, I can’t go back to working for myself in the way that I want, because I just simply won’t make enough money. I did feel a bit better when I worked for myself. Not phenomenally, but a bit better.

In the meantime, I’m really curious what might be appropriate for me?
Just job hop every two years or so once things start to feel rancid?
Try to find contract work so that I will have an end goal in sight?
Try to find a part-time job with benefits (very challenging) and ramp up my business a little bit?

How do I prevent/get out of this kind of funk that I’ve been in for 20+ years now in the working world?

Is there simply no answer? Maybe work just stinks and that’s it?

I’d love to hear any experiences or insight.
