Woah, that’s terrifying @Bracken_Joy You think I should do screenshots of all the comments?

Definitely block. Unless there’s any actual threats I don’t think you can get police involved but it might be worth reporting the account to Instagram for harassment, they might be in violation of ToS and they’d ban the IP address itself.

And another +1 for screenshot everything first.

Ok I’m going to screenshot first, will post when that’s done. I’m thinking my to do is:

  1. Screenshot
  2. Block/Report
  3. Go private

Sound good? Anything I’m missing? Thanks y’all!

You could try saving the profile picture and doing a reverse google image search on it.

My car has to be parked outside, and I’m pretty sure there’s a mouse living in it. There are tiny bites taken out of my cabin air filter, droppings on the floor, a mouse popping out of my hood while I was driving to work.

Pretty sure hood mouse is gone now, but any tips for preventing more unwanted car tenants?

It wouldn’t hurt to file a police report anyway in case anything escalates. You don’t have to ask for action, just make the report.

Screenshots, lock everything down including accounts you may have made and never use. Stop sharing the identifiable stuff here and on other forums (personally because I knew my harasser had already caused me longterm psychological harm and short term physical harm, I burnt down my forum accounts and made a new name and it was a long time before I started leaking identifiable info) - but I pmed a few friends and others gradually guessed or got to know the new me

Other than taking steps to prevent rodents in general, I don’t think so but professor google might have suggestions. Rodents are attracted to warm places so nesting in car engines is not terribly uncommon. If you are okay with traps, could place a snap trap or two underneath the car along the inside of the wheels each night, then remember to remove them each morning. Tomcat makes black plastic snap traps that are much easier to arm than the old school wood and spring ones.

I don’t have any actual advice but that is so crazy!

Do take other social media accounts private, too. Are you still writing professionally? Wondering if it might make sense to mention this to a supervisor in case it spreads there?

The Frugalwoods had some issues with mice in their Prius. I’m not sure if they’ve eradicated the issue, but I found this comment with what sounds like a good suggestion:

Honda makes a tape that is infused with capsacin – the mice HATE it. One chew and they’re done. The wire coatings in your prius (and many other vehicles including our F150) are made of soybeans and are very attractive to rodents. Thus the need to wrap the wires with tape. We had $1200 wire damage on a 6-week old truck! Since wrapping no problems. Love your book and your site.

@AllHat That is so bizarre and scary!

OH MY GOSH how would I wrap all the wires??

I’ll look into this, thank you!

You can also remove followers on instagram. So if there’s anyone you don’t know or haven’t talked to in a long time who’s following your account, you may want to consider removing them now that your account is private.

Would hate to see you cleared out here but might be safest.

I would…I know on mmm, ARS had me individually delete all my concerning comments, and he deleted my journals and then he deleted my account

So, the stuff that’s been suggested is a good place to start.

Have either of you gotten voicemail from someone that seems affiliated with this? If you have, you may be able to do some tracing from that.

You could maybe set up a honeypot-esque website, link from a photo and collect their IP and browser info. Unless they’re smarter than usual, that IP would give you a good idea of their current location, plus you’d get their device info.

You could also search their username on google or another search engine. Things that end in onion can get you info you might not be able to access in the brighter areas of the web.

I’d report abuse to instagram if you haven’t already.

Before contacting the emily your husband knew, I’d probably do some light internet OSINT to see if she seems stable or not.

Honestly, this is super easy to fake on a bot or bait account, just so you know.

Under what circumstances (like, what kinds of messes or what kinds of surfaces) are microfiber cloths preferable to cotton rags for cleaning? I wouldn’t buy new microfiber cloths, but I just realized that we have a bunch of lightly-used microfiber diaper inserts that could be used for cleaning, since we prefer cotton diapers.
