Is there an estate type attorney or wealth manager already involved?

No idea about free/DIY resources. A company like Kennon-Green might be worth talking to. I really like their philosophy but have nowhere near the amount of assets they require to be an actual customer

Current manager is a lawyer, but I believe there is also a legal advisor, but older so also close to end of career etc.

Definitely yes on grudges, and complex family structure involving surprise half siblings, their descendants, branches that don’t talk to each other, and each branch living in a different country. (Mexico, US, Canada). Oh and at least one (Formerly) secret family by a husband.

Yeah, wealth manager involved, I believe Wells Fargo but the trust has followed her between companies, so it’s her services vs the company itself it seems. She’s close to retirement age but not there yet.

Is the current manager a family member that just happens to be a lawyer?

Yikes, sounds possibly …contentious. It is always tricky to make things seem “fair”.

Yes, happens to be a lawyer, not practicing anymore.

Although update! Found out it’s for a different buncha assets, so small slice of the pie of the family, and part of the question is if it should be MADE a trust. Estranged half sibling and descendants still at play though. International considerations are not. Same wealth manager, same lawyers.

So part of the updated question. How does one decide whether to make a trust? Or somehow otherwise organize assets that are going to move from an older generation to younger ones?

I think it’s a way of providing clarity about distributions? And also a way to get around estate taxes if the pile is big enough.

Definitely estate tax concerns, and I think Oregon leverages substantially extra on top of federal? I need to look at all up.

Eta looking at numbers, yes Oregon (Above $1mil) no federal (above $11.something mil)

Ugh. Anyone know how it works determining which state applies? Is it the state of residence of the deceased? The state of residence of the inheritor? Something else?

No luck with eBay but I hadn’t thought about local repair shops, thanks!

I haven’t found the original manual yet but I have found other interesting files and a huge repository of manuals I am not done exploring.

Made this tonight:

And it’s good, but not quite what I want. Does anyone have a great Pad Thai recipe?

Honestly I just randomly mix together soy sauce, peanut butter and fish sauce, throw it on noodles and sauteed veggies and hope it comes out edible…

Have I told you how much I like the way you do things?

Maybe not quite as easy as Greyweld’s but I like this website’s recipes, particularly her noodle recipes. I don’t remember if I’ve made the pad thai but I love her pad see ew.

I would absolutely block that account and be on high alert for your other social media platforms and any other unwanted contact your or your husband might receive.

You may have a real life troll, you may have a stalker.

Oh damn. So as someone who had to lock down my life because of an ex’s ex turning stalker… lock it down early. It sucks, but I’d recommend circling your wagons now. You can always open up publicly again later, but people get batshit insane and you don’t want to play with that.

Context though, this lady showed up at night outside my apartment with a knife so… I’m extra paranoid I think.

Eta oh and take photos of everything in case you need to go to the police.

That’s really disturbing. I wouldn’t personally reach out to anyone from his past.

I would screenshot everything.

I’d not only block that person but report them to Instagram for harassment.
