I like to cook beats in the instant pot with a bit of apple cider vinegar and a few cloves tossed in for flavor.

How long do you put them in the instant pot for?

I have gym access again - is there a decent app out there for “Just tell me what to do for my work out”? Doesn’t have to be a free app.

What are your goals and fitness starting point? Not how fit you are, but how much experience you have in a gym/with gym equipment.

I used to do twice a week trainer-led group work out, it started off Crossfit-ish but I don’t know how well it adhered to it over time. So like he’d have us run around the parking lot, come back in and do burpees, squats, kettle bell stuff, other free weights. I know my left shoulder is weaker than my right so presses (if that’s the right word?) over my head I need to do lower weights than I think I want so the joint doesn’t collapse and I bonk myself on the head with my weight.

But I’m a terrible coach to myself. If I had to draft my own routine it’d be"Let’s do twenty of this. Well, fifteen is fine. Ten is practically the same as fifteen." etc. :stuck_out_tongue: If there’s a written list I have to stick to the list because I turn my brain off when I exercise and keeping track of my “modifications” to the list is too much brain work. (This is probably terrible logic, just go with it though.)

I mean, I hired a coach for a similar reason but different end of the spectrum.

I usually use them as a side dish or a salad topping, I also like to pickle them. There are two main ways I cook them: boiling or baking. Here’s the deal with both.

Boiling- Pro is you don’t have to peel them because the peels will slip off when they’re cooked. Cooking this way is just like cooking a whole potato, you can push a fork into them to test when they’re done. The downside to boiling is you don’t get a nice crispy bake on the skin and if they’re really big beets it takes a long ass time.

Baking- You peel them, slice them (I like slicing either like an orange in segments or cubing), toss in anything with oil (you could even use a store bought salad dressing he likes), put on a baking sheet and bake. I usually do it on like 375-400 and usually flip them after 15 minutes or so. Again, it’s easy to test with a fork when they’re done.

I eat them as-is all the time, but if you want to pump up the flavor you could add a squeeze of citrus, or of course you can season if you want. I think beets are pretty flavorful on their own so I tend not to season them too much unless I’m pickling them. I think they also go well with roasted carrots, and definitely with salad greens! You can also top them with feta cheese or something similar (any crumbly cheese). A little honey mixed with oil would be good too if he’s a sweet guy.

He likes stuff a little spicy. Maybe I can cube them and air fry them at 400F for 18 minutes like I do with the potatoes. A little of the spice rub my friend gave me a recipe for and we’ll see what happens.

Spicy would be great! Oh also, if you happen to live near any mennonites or amish- they usually do awesome pickled beets.

No spice for me though. Although maybe this one won’t be so bad. Her mom eats it and her acid reflux was worse than mine, and she won’t eat anything that’ll trigger it.

I vote yes, because it very much is what you make of it. Just don’t friend people or follow things lol. It’s just a platform, and how you choose to consume content shapes what you see. :woman_shrugging:

Ha! Okay, fair point. I’m just pretty conservative about social media platforms since The Great Doxing of 2021 via The Hellscape Twitter. But to your point, I did friend those little jerkholes.

Funny enough, I had a “guns are just tools,” conversation just a few hours ago. The verisimilitude made me snort.

I also vote yes. Especially for fb marketplace. I still check craigslist but I think a lot of people aren’t using it anymore. Marketplace has way more listings.

As a seller, I’ve completely moved to marketplace. It’s so easy to look at somebody’s profile and immediately ascertain if it’s a scam and just not reply. It saves me massive amounts of time.

Definitely worth it. Like others said, don’t connect with people individually but you may want to put up a picture or two so people in the groups you join don’t think you’re just a spammer. I joined Nextdoor for similar reasons. In my current area Nextdoor is worse than Facebook as far as social goes, but I can usually offload what I need or find things that I need.

As a seller, usually what I glance for on someone’s page that tells me they’re a local/real person is more than one friend, not a brand new profile, a check in at a local establishment or liking local business pages or news sources, and a couple of real photos. It can even just be of landmarks in the area though, they don’t have to be in the shot for me to feel comfortable replying to a message from them. I don’t know if that helps people, just kind of the loose criteria I use.
