Can we do a quick, am I crazy gut check? We work with an accountant to do our complicated taxes. There was a mistake in 2020, which led to a series of letters from the IRS, culminating in one that said it was our last warning before a lien was put on our house. It was a $100 mistake, so it was more about dealing with it than paying the money. I think this is a big screw-up on the accountant’s end because the idea of the government putting a lien on our house seems like a big deal?

I’d want another accountant to look at everything. Here there are default letters that get sent in certain circumstances, but this doesn’t sound like it

Husband asks for you to check inside drawer or door to check for model number and send it to him and he’ll check for open recalls. He says yes, hot plastic smell can be a concern. Don’t use the self cleaning feature he says, it can exacerbate the problem if there is one.

OMG thank you, I’ll check rn brb.

ETA: Sent you a dm.

I wonder if the oven element is starting to burn out.

Assuming this isn’t a new oven - those can stink for while

It was new when we moved in and it did stink! We had to run it for ages and air the whole apartment out. Eventually that went away and it was fine. I’ve been using it for about 3 years now without issue and it’s just this week that it suddenly smells really weird.

I don’t understand enough about law to understand why some lawyers are saying that the scotus just corrected from a legal standpoint an overstep from previous courts re roe v wade. can someone shed some light on that?

3 years?!?! It does not feel that long ago, wow :flushed:

I know!!! I think it’s a bit skewed bc we moved and then like 5 months later covid hit. So I feel like I’ve lived here maybe 18 months? IDK it’s weird.

It’s too late now for the impromptu cook out we’re going to tomorrow (already did the grocery run) but is there such a thing as a baked good/dessert/treat I could contribute when the group has someone with diet-controlled diabetes and someone who does keto? I think the answer is no but figured I’d ask.

Some berries (blueberries and raspberries) in a sugar free whipped cream would fit for a lot of people depending on how strict their numbers are.

Are you looking to make something from scratch, or to buy something? There are a lot of recipes for things like sugar free almond flour chocolate chip cookies, or almond flour brownies, etc. If you want to buy something for convenience, I’ve tried the Highkey brand of keto chocolate chips cookies and they are pretty good. Birch Benders also has a line of keto cake mixes and cookie mixes that are tasty as well.

Ooo this is something I didn’t think of. I had a keto friend who used to serve frozen berries (blueberres/raspberries/blackberries) with heavy cream poured on top for desert. It was actually really tasty!

Haha that’s one of my favorite deserts!

I am not a lawyer, but I am someone who was pretty surprised (and pleased) when Roe was first handed down.

There’s no explicit “right to privacy” in the US Constitution. The Bill of Rights spells out what our rights are and usually the Supreme Court interprets exactly what that means.

So with Roe, the Court said that there was an “implied” right to privacy, and there has always been a line of legal thought that asked, basically, if that was legit.

The good thing is that the Court hardly ever overturns a ruling like that, so it seemed a lot more secure than legislation. (Hah.)

But there has always been a group arguing that it cut off the consensus building that might have occurred and opened it up to becoming a political land mine.

If both are okay with non-sugar sweeteners (e.g. sugar alcohols, monkfruit, etc.) , there’s tons of options. If one or neither are, then something like BJ’s suggestion would be best. Though the version of keto I did, I never expected nor ate dessert except some occasional berries, because I avoided all sweeteners.

Does anyone else get an insane amount of Instagram/other socials ads for online gambling and sports bet apps?? I do and it honestly just does NOT make sense.

I actually have never and will never gamble any (even small) amount of money because it just goes against my worldview. I’m also very tame in almost all areas, a bore really. I don’t even drink alcohol anymore… for the past two years. I’m young enough and female and it seems like broad social trends point to me being incredibly not interested in gambling.

I also follow a bunch of personal finance accounts, but like good ones not Ramit or Bitcoin, so like why are they advertising to me. Is it because my data is telling these advertisers I’m prone to addiction or something (I’m not)? My conspiracy side is concerned it’s related to the content around therapy and mental illness I follow that’s being data farmed to “prey on the vulnerable” or something.

I have noticed this for a year plus, and I was worried it would get a million times worse after I had to travel to Vegas and ended up staying in a casino, but it seems as much as it’s always been. I feel kind of self conscious about it because idk anyone else getting the same targeting, I’ve asked a few friends. Or the recent laws I know have changed around app gambling are causing a general huge ad spend affecting lots of people looking at devices. When it’s dead at work I don’t want my manager to walk by and think i have a gambling addiction because of my Instagram ads :woman_facepalming: I just want to follow hiking accounts on Instagram in peace

I think it’s this one!

It’s also possibly that getting someone addicted to gambling is so profitable that they’re willing to cast a much wider net.

My husband gets them constantly and has never gambled. I get more “get rich quick from home” and weight loss stuff, neither of which I’ve ever used either. :woman_shrugging:
