I found this bottle with mostly old pennies in my box of stuff for school.

Any ideas on how to open it other than smashing?

Will the bottom metal not flip up?

the bottom flips up, but can’t get the top metal piece up and over.

The shoulder point needs to be rotated so that the top has enough slack to get around.

the shoulder doesn’t want to shift, the bottom metal moves, but I can’t get it to have enough leverage to move the shoulder pieces.

Have you thunked it with the butt of a buffer knife? That usually works for me. Otherwise you could try some WD40 to deal with the rust? Since it doesn’t have to be food safe to get Pennie’s out.

hmm, I hadn’t considered oil. We don’t have wd40, but I’m sure we have some other kind of penetrating stuff.

We’d been talking about very hot water to see if the different rates of expansion could help.

Is it wrong to have 6 different kinds of ice cream in the freezer? Asking for a friend.

Dunno, it doesn’t last long enough at my house for six to accumulate.

ETA: I think a good friend will offer to help her eat it.

If it were wrong why does it feel so right?

Um. There were sales so 4 were purchased last night. they won’t last long.

No.

this seems pretty ideal to me…I usually have 3 at a time, but I wish I had space for more! Do you eat a little of each at the same time??

I don’t, but maybe I should try it!

A math and money question that my brain can’t handle this week:

Can someone explain APY or help me calculate the differences below? I’m determined to switch our money to a socially responsible bank. They are not making it easy. I’d like to compare and contrast two different money scenarios for four different banks:

Money scenarios:

  1. $5,000 account balance
  2. $20,000 account balance

Banks:

  1. 0.4% APY
  2. 3% APY on first $10,000 only
  3. 5% APY on first $10,000, 0.1% APY on anything over $10,000. $72 Annual Fee
  4. 0.10% on balances up to $2,500; 0.20% on balances over $2,500

Is all APY calculated the same? I see APY= (1 + r/n )^n but…is n always 12? 365? Why is this so hard lol?

For bank accounts, n=12 unless stated otherwise. (banks generally compound and pay interest monthly)

Thanks! I found an online calculator for APY and knowing that it’s monthly I think I can calculate this. Of course, one of the banks requires a $1K minium debit spend which would take away from our credit card points…the variables are multiplying.

Does anyone bank with Almagamated Bank?

I’m leaning towards them since they actively use their funds and profits on progressive causes, pay living wages, and have a diverse company leadership and workforce.

But by all accounts the online banking app is terrible and they don’t have branches in my area. Hoping someone might have actual experience?

My second choice is Aspiration Bank but like most other “socially responsible banks” the only real commitment they make is not funding fossil fuels.

Brilliant forumers, help me troubleshoot? I have noticed (just starting this week) an odd smell in my oven. My oven is electric, not gas. The smell when it’s hot is just a bit like, chemical? It is not the smell of burning food. Closer to burning plastic. DH is going to deep clean it as a first line of offense, just in case it is a spill or something (could spilled oil smell rank like this?). But I guess I want to know…is there anything dangerous this could be? Like could it be a burning wire or is that totally stupid?

Okay this is very much my husbands professional wheelhouse. Do you want him to do a full walk through with you of checking for wiring issues? Send me a PM and we can coordinate.
