Not personally, but I used to follow a travel influencer who was also a wheelchair user (I cannot for the life of me recall her name) and I vaguely remember her writing about how she joined a travel club with an annual membership that worked a lot with people with medical problems (disableds but also chronic illness and terminal people) and that she was able to get really good traveler’s insurance through that, better than one offs, but she traveled a lot so IDK if that would be worth it for one trip.

If he doesn’t have insurance and has to get care I believe the full bill will follow him when he goes home. If it’s basic like for urgent care normal person being sick stuff I don’t think it would be too bad, I used to pay OOP and it was like $50ish for an appointment. If it’s emergency room or hospital or specialist arena it will be a fuckload. I’d get the insurance. Spry gentleman is fortunate to have you!

I’m planning to put a screen porch on my house, hopefully sooner than later. I haven’t gotten an estimate yet, and I don’t know if they even have availability this summer, but I would like opinions on color. They make the metal parts in white or bronze and maybe others but I’m probably going to choose one of those. I’ve been thinking bronze because maybe it looks better with the brick, but I do have quite a bit of white on the back too. Will white stand out or look funny with the dark house? My real preference would be stained wood but I think I’ve decided I don’t want that maintenance. I live in Michigan and we definitely have some icky weather. The bottom picture is what I had drawn up when I was thinking wood. I can probably get computer pics done in white and bronze, I will call them tomorrow to see. That may help me make a decision.

I think both look good but the bronze probably will look better over time instead of having to clean stuff off the white to keep it bright looking

Good point!

The bronze looks more expensive to me, and will show less dirt.

My google-fu is failing me: is there a place I can find the dimensions of flat rate (I guess they are “regional rate” now) USPS boxes and the shipping costs for them?

THANK YOU. I don’t know why I couldn’t find that.

Is this flower bed by my garage an ok place to put a birdhouse? I would put it at the left/back corner so there are trees very close to it. I don’t really want to have to mow around a pole in the middle of the yard if I don’t have to.

Yep

Also, depending on what birds you’re trying to attract, it doesn’t even need to be near trees.

I just want reassurance before I do something I cannot undo.

My mom passed in 2018 and I filed her final return by the April 2019 deadline. Three years have passed; I can now shred everything, right?

Does anyone use a security system like Ring or Simplisafe and like it/recommend a particular one? I think I want to get a front door cam, and some door motion sensor thingies…living in a 2 story house alone kinda creeps me out. I also want a way to check the door locks, etc while I’m away in the Summer if my roommate moves out early.

I know it’s 7 years for most tax returns in case you get audited, but I don’t know if that number still applies if the person has passed away.

3 years, you should be good to shred

Just got a W4 to fill out for a part time summer job. If I’m getting married in July, should I choose married filing jointly for this now, which is presumably how we’ll end up filing for 2022? I’m leaning towards leaving it as single and just sorting everything out later, since it will only be about 6k additional income. Plus, all the rest of my current income is from self-employment and then both of us will be switching jobs mid-year, so it feels impossible to actually estimate how much I should have withheld. Please tell me if this is reasonable!

Coupled with the estate being closed, I don’t think the IRS has anyone to go after in an audit. Shred away!

Congratulations to you on an exciting upcoming life event!

I MFJ for actual tax filing, but my payroll withholding is at the (higher withholding) single rate. Personally I am more concerned about under-withholding than over-withholding (which I do) for reasons I don’t wanna get into here… grumble grumble my husband under-withheld once. My aversion to owing money is strong and illogical.

If you have any business income where you don’t make estimated payments, or interest income or investment income etc where there is no withholding mechanism, this can be the way to go to avoid owing. I have no idea your overall financial situation though, so YMMV.

Kiddo has a zit on his nose right where his glasses rest. I have entirely forgotten how one deals with this, tips for getting it to go away?

Poor kiddo! Those are the worst! I like the Clean and Clear rapid pimple gel (not sure what it’s actually called, but it’s in a silver tube with a purple cap). It is so full of alcohol that it makes my eyes water, but that also really helps it dry the zit out really fast. Not sure if it’s actually good for the skin or long term acne fighting, but it is the best for glasses pimples I’ve found. Also sometimes putting an ice cube on it for a bit will calm it down and make it hurt less when the glasses are on it.

Those silicone acne sheets should work well to protect it from irritation while it resolves. Keeping the glasses clean is key too, not sure materials but for work we always did alcohol wipes a few times per day and let it dry fully (doesn’t take long) then put back on.
