Another one-eye astigmatism person here, but I do have to use corrected lenses for that side because it’s at the point where lights cause bad halos and I’d be very hesitant to drive at night without the correction (not that I could even find my car without my glasses, but when my ‘good’ glasses were in an accident last year I could see more distortion even with the next-oldest pair).
Having said that, each new set of glasses takes a little bit of adjustment to get used to, but I’ve never had it take anywhere near a full day…in my case I’m wearing glasses all the time, not sure if that’s also your situation, but usually I’ve been able to get the new glasses and wander around for maybe fifteen or twenty minutes before I feel perfectly fine to drive. Switching back to older glasses also takes a little adjustment like I said, but again nowhere near a day.
That’s really interested about not correcting it. I’ve had slight astigmatism for a long time, and this is the first time a Dr has ever added it to my prescription. He said it was a huge change from my visit last year…and now I’m wondering if it was possibly a mistake? My previous lenses felt totally normal and I wasn’t having any issues.
This is very interesting to me (as well as the responses).
I feel I got tricked into buying glasses a couple years ago. I was told I had an astigmatism in one eye, and that the other eye had better eyesight.
I wouldn’t have gotten the glasses at all if I had understood how the eyesight numbers work-- I was told that one eye was 20/20 and the other was 20/15 and assumed very wrongly that the prescription was to improve the 20/15 eye to be perfect 20/20. I’ve since learned that 20/15 is actually BETTER than 20/20. (Neither the optometrist, nor the eyeglass staff explained that to me.) Needless to say, if I need to get my eyes checked again I will go somewhere else.
Anyway, that was a long story before I even got to my point: but I wore those glasses all the time and felt funny for several days. It was like the floor wasn’t where I expected it to be. I guess I did adjust eventually, but I also didn’t feel I got any benefit from the glasses. I stopped wearing them after a month or so. It was so odd that I was so affected given the prescription was so very minor!!
You could ask for a second opinion! It might be because mine is so slight though? I’ve never experienced light halos or anything, didn’t even know I had astigmatism until they told me.
