Hey uh has anyone ever frozen their credit? How does it work? I’m thinking about doing mine as my boss’ wife had her information stolen and used to purchase a $49K car in CA. I’m freaking out at the thought that someone could do that to me so how do I prevent this from happening?

And should I close old credit cards I don’t use? I have a jc penney and belk’s card I don’t really use at all, should I close those?

W have ours frozen. It’s easy and now free.

Super easy. Google “transunion credit freeze”, etc. Use their websites. Free to do temporary lifts when you need to.

Old CCs- add to aggregators like Mint if you use them, otherwise go set up transaction alerts. If there’s no fee, you probably want to keep them for credit score purposes.

Freeze at each of them.

I’d keep your oldest credit card because it improves your credit score, but close any other ones you’re not using.

Mine’s frozen too, it was easy.
I unfroze them when I decided to get some different credit cards, that was still pretty easy.

Just froze all three this morning. Already feeling less panicky. Bro has chosen not to freeze his but he checks his credit report daily.

I didn’t know you could check your report daily! I thought you could check it for free a certain number of times per year.

I don’t know who he checks it through but I’m signed up with Nerdwallet (it’s free) and I can check mine anytime as well. They also have lots of good financial resources and calculators too.

Probably the Credit Karma dashboard? I’m not sure how often it updates but you can always log in and look at a number. I also have credit monitoring with Capital One checking and they email me any time my credit score moves.

During the pandemic I think they’ve been made unlimited free? I saw something mention that.

I have always wondered why there is a flu season and it’s not just prevalent all the time? Is it weather related, since the colder months are usually the germy months?

An exciting area of research!

I’ve seen different ideas on this, but it seems to come down to questions of temperature, UV, and people crowding indoors.

Free weekly. Here’s the FTC website including link to the right place to go (there are credit report scammers out there, so I always start from a .gov page). Edit: whoops, link:

Why do so many supernatural and true crime podcasts start with a terrible acoustic guitar theme? And why is it always just harshly strummed G and C chords? THERE IS SOMETHING THEY AREN’T TELLING US.

In general, when you add someone to a credit card as an authorized user, do banks typically charge them an annual fee? After four years of cohabitating and sharing expenses, my wife and I are getting on each other’s credit cards, huge for us.

I know I’ll go card by card, but just curious to prepare emotionally.

Edit: we already have basically the same credit score and share a mortgage, so no worries on other risks etc. on sharing credit cards.

It depends on the card. Usually it’s only the premium cards that charge for an AU.

Probs won’t have to emotionally prepare too much, even the super premium $$$ fee Amex we have gives you an authorized user at no charge.

I’m 5’1" and have had posture issues that caused me some nerve damage and now reduced shoulder mobility. Is it ridiculous to spend $1200 on a Herman Miller chair for my height to help my work set up?

I can ask my office to help me offset cost, I guess.
