Thanks for the cat treat rec. The ingredients look good so I ordered some today!
Late to respond but just wanted to say we recently changed from a very large credit union with all the features to one that is much smaller and I tiny bit clunkier (still fine for us) but is really focused on making a difference in our local community. They have a much more diverse board, leadership, and employees, put a lot of effort into helping people without banking histories get set up, loan products that emphasize things we think will improve the community (like rate discounts for an EV and loans to help people get a bike or pay fees to become citizens).
So those might be things to think about depending on the reason for the switch! We recently got a vehicle loan and the dealership was annoyed bc our original CU is all set in their system and there was a bit more legwork involved in our current CU but we want our interest to fund our community!
Question for you smart folks. I’m interviewing for a job, and have done two interviews with the same group of four people. I sent thank-you emails after the first interview: would you send them after the second too?
Context, in case it matters: I’m mid career-ish, the job is a white collar job in the policy/nonprofit/government world.
I think it doesn’t hurt! A quick, “it was great to see you again,” or something.
This is how I was leaning too, thanks!
Questions for folks who run!
I started running again, after a 5 year hiatus, since my favorite coach said I should take a break from CrossFit to let my injured shoulder fully recover (I joke that I’ve been banned from CrossFit). Not that I was actually a “runner” back then, but I successfully got to 5K on hilly trails without stopping, which was a huge accomplishment for me!
I have two questions:
-
Today around the 5K mark (~40 minutes in), I felt like I was getting into the groove and could keep going if I wanted to! I have heard that this is a thing that runners experience. Does it usually happen so far in or will it happen sooner if I keep at it?
-
When I started CrossFit, I was going three times a week and felt absolutely flattened from exhaustion for 24 hours after each class. It took me 6 weeks to start feeling normal again. Is that because of the weight training or will it also happen from running?
Trying to figure out how to sustainably add running into my routine!
In my experience, the “groove” comes sooner as you get more running fit…to an extent. I feel like no matter how long I could run, it always took me 20 minutes to feel good. The first 20 min of almost every run I would literally feel like…ok I’m going to die, I have to stop now, my ankles are going to break, my hip hurts, etc…and then magically around 20 min that all disappears. When I started running longer distances (12-15 miles) sometimes it would take me more like 30-45 min to warm up because I was more endurance fit. The same thing happened on the bike…if I was riding 20 hours a week, it would sometimes take me 90 min to feel like a real person on the bike.
I think 6-8 weeks is a reasonable time frame to expect to adjust to running, if you are doing it 2-3 times a week. I would follow the 10% rule (don’t increase distance or time more than 10% each week) and do that for 3 weeks at a time, with 1 week of recovery/shorter/easier runs, maybe incorporate some walking. I used to do 2-3 shorter runs during the week (maybe 1 easy, 2 harder), and then on the weekend I would do a really easy, longer run.
Thanks so much!!
Yikes, it’s hard to hear that even after you get experienced, it still sucks at the beginning every single time. 20 minutes is a long time when you’re suffering!
Maybe a dumb question, but have you tried specifically warming up before you run? Something like this: How To Warm Up Before You Run | Step-By-Step Running Warm Up Guide - YouTube
I don’t! I walk to the trailhead, that’s probably 7-8 minutes and starts to go uphill. But my run is so slow that it’s kind-of like a giant 45 minute warmup
I walk back home from the trailhead to cool down and do a through stretching afterward inside the house.
Ok question for those who’ve taken birth control pills. I’ve been taking Camrese for over a decade and tonight they gave me simpesse. It has the same hormones in the same amount and is listed as an alternate. Has anyone ever had a change in brand on their birth control? I know it’s fine, but my brain is like ‘no it’s not the saaaaammmmeeee, it ain’t gonna wooooorrrrrkkkk’
My brain’s just being dumb right? It’ll be fine, but my brain is being dumb because I hate change.
I did, all the time due to insurance or even just delivery shenanigans. Doesn’t matter at all as long as it’s the same doses of the same hormones.
I knew it, but again, my brain is an asshole. Nice to hear it from a sane person though. Hope y’all are getting through alright.
With hormones it shouldn’t matter. Sometimes things like SSRIs, changing manufacturer of the same med and dose some people can notice differences. But sex hormones work in such a way, if it’s the same hormone and the same dose, it should totally be the same.
I’m so glad for nurses y’all
Yep, I think they’re all just different generic brands with the same hormones. I remember for the longest time I was on Orthotricyclen but then I switched pharmacies and it was Trinessa.
One thing I would always hear from the really really fast people at running/cycling was “it never gets easier, you just get faster” …even those super fast amazing runners are suffering as much as we are, they just look like pros while doing it haha
Nooooooo
Well, I guess at least being just “uncomfortable” is a huge improvement from where I was before! I don’t think I panted at all during the run today, it was more that I pushed myself to keep going and not walk. I will never be a competitive runner so I don’t need to put myself through pain. My motto is “I at least showed up”
Why do all brith control brands sound like either a straight up toxic chemical or a girl’s name from the 90s?
