I considered syphilis but I’ve never heard of a case causing swelling like that, even ones that were super bad. So probably an abscessed injury or (ooh, forgot about this) possibly an abscess caused by pasteurella or bordatella

Am I the only one who really hated Squid Game? I finished it last night and afterwards was, meh. It wasn’t even the violence, because it looked very fake to me so it didn’t bother me as much as violence usually does.

Everyone I know who watched it loved it. I guess add it to the list of fandoms that I don’t really get?

RLG and I hated it for a few episodes, tolerated it for a few more, and were mildly interested by the end. I usually can’t watch anything even remotely suspenseful, but I agree with you that the fake-ness made it tolerable (for me). Everything seemed like a caricature. I didn’t hate it, but I definitely didn’t think it was very good.

I suspected I wouldn’t like it so when Youtube suggested the Honest Trailers of it I just watched that instead. It was enough to get me context for how much it’s currently in pop culture right now.

Haven’t tried it. The Battle Royale meets Running Man updated for 2021 premise doesn’t particularly appeal to me.

I enjoy the memes. I know myself well enough to know I wouldn’t enjoy the show.

I watched the first episode, but I only watch tv when I knit and it’s hard to knit to stuff that has subtitles. I didn’t find it interesting enough to watch any more.

I read reviews and summaries and noped out of that pretty quickly.

What I’ve absolutely loved recently on the exact opposite side of the spectrum is Baby-sitters club on Netflix!!

I loooooove my microwavable flax seed wrap. I used to have a buckwheat one but you can only microwave those a certain amount of time per day, and then they get too dry and can burn. The flax ones retain the oil that gets heated, so you can reuse many times a day. But don’t overheat or it can still burn. I do 2-2.5 minutes for mine.

Here is the one I have and really like. You can get it with lavender or unscented.

I liked it but I feel like it’s a certain stylistic genre that you either enjoy or don’t. I looooooved Old Boy (the original Korean version) and Sympathy For Mr Vengeance. I didn’t like Parasite, though.

I also have a flax seed based one and it’s withstood at least once daily use for 18 months so far.

How long do you think it takes to figure out if you really don’t like where you live? Factoring in covid times. So imagine you moved like 6 months before covid started. How long would you stay in that place total before concluding you do/don’t like it?

In normal times I’d say 2 years. I liked to see a place in all its seasons and get to know the locals. But with Covid, I don’t know. It’s a very lonely time to move somewhere new and that’s a significant part of my personal happiness at living in a certain place, though definitely not all of it.

Two years is my normal standard too! IDK if it applies for this move though. Maybe I should double it to account for the difference.

I might give it like 6 months to a year post-pandemic, just because moving is such a collosal hassle. But it depends on what you’re not liking about the new place. Like, if it’s the weather, that’s not going to change!

Normally it takes 18 months to feel established in a place, so I’d say 2-2.5 years.

Yeah if it’s weather and recreation, that’s shorter term. I’d also say it depends on what you value and how much work you’ve been able to put into that area. Love hiking, but you’ve been in school or having a flare up and can’t explore hiking much at all, that’ll give you a longer timeline.

Re: Squid Game? No TV here, so no I only kind of know it’s a thing. I’ve been not current for some time now, and that’s fine.

Needed to keep up when I had the store, because people would come in and say, “I love (character), do you have any books that have people like that?” And, of course, you’d have to know something about (character) or you couldn’t answer the question…

Usually my opinion after the first 6 months hasn’t changed over time. I haven’t moved in the middle of a pandemic though, so that definitely changes things. Me liking living somewhere vs not is usually related to the social scene and what people like to do. I am not a “drive somewhere to a restaurant that people want to try” or a “bond over local sports teams in bars” kind of person and have lived a couple places where that was 90% of the social interactions. Even as I put in a lot of effort to expand my social circles and find ‘my people’, I couldn’t change the culture of the city and never felt at home there (lived in both places for 3+ years). The places I’ve felt like home, I’ve met multiple people who like meeting up for a hike or an outdoor casual happy hour with limited notice and possibly bringing along others within a short time frame who developed into a network of close friends and acquaintances.
