I bought these about six weeks ago and I like them but they’re not completely silent. They’re good for steady background noise - I don’t hear the dryer running in the next room, I don’t hear the garage door opening even though I’m one wall away - but they’re not great at conversation. I can tell my husband said something to me, but I can’t tell exactly what. He tends to just walk across the room and talk to me then gets annoyed when I take off my headphones and say “What?” (his fault for assuming I’m listening at all times).

Oh and these are bluetooth but also come with a (short) cord to make them wired also.

I’d see what The Wirecutter guide might say. Often they have good budget picks, or will tell you why they don’t like budget options if they’re recommendations are higher end.

I don’t think you’ll be happy with really cheap ones because they usually don’t block out noise very well. I think for around the $100 mark you can get something decent though. I picked these out for my husband and he is very sensitive to sound and says they’re great. FWIW I like CNet, ArsTechnica, and LaptopMag for reviews.

@druidessie, @meerkat and @AllHat thanks for the recommendations! I’ll read up on these review sites and I might just go to BestBuy and try some on this weekend. I’m most worried about my ears hurting from the pressure of over-ear headphones. I’ve always been an ear bud person but seems like they don’t provide much noise-cancelling

There’s in-ear (ear bud), on-ear, and over-ear. Mine are over-ear so the cup is all around my ear on my skull but not on my ear. Over-ear also help block out sound because my ear is surrounded by padding. That might help with your shopping.

Does anyone have a good style of heating pad they recommend? I’ve been using hot water in a big water bottle for a long time but want something flexier.

Yes! Get a super flexible one, not a stiff plastic one. We have this one and it is amazing. It also has a little heft to it so it sometimes has a nice weighted blanket feeling too

It was more expensive than like a normal flat one but in this family where we are full of aches and pains, it has totally been worth it.

Thank you! I will consult with Greyman on budget allocation and probably order one soon.

Totally different question:

Seeking fabric wall art/quilt/tapestry for my walls and a rug for my floor to make it less echoey in my office. Highly prefer actual independent maker and not “china imports masquerading as handmade independent shop.” I assume given the ones I’m seeing on Etsy at first are like $10 either I’m way miscalibrated on what stuff should cost or it’s a mass production resale kinda thing.

Anyone know why this (wild) rabbit would have a facial lump and if it poses any risk to my dog and toddler?

@druidessie @katscratch @Greyweld ?

Most lumps and bumps are gonna be cysts, abscesses, tumors or warts. There is a rabbit specific virus that can cause swellings, but I don’t remember there being anything that would cross from rabbit to dogs with that one.

Obviously double-check with your vet and take the normal precautions with any wild animals. Rabbits can carry fleas, ticks and tapeworms as well as rabies/bubonic plague/rabbit fever(I think dogs need to eat them for that one. Will confirm)

That’s not something I’ve seen before, sorry

Not aware of anything in particular. My first thought was a rabbit papilloma virus but that looks way different.

Thanks guys!
