How likely is he to remember they exist later? My kid only recently started remembering food later, usually it was out of sight out of mind so I’d vote eat both of his.

Michaels is a good idea! Dollar stores too, good call. I feel like they’re likelier to sell them by the bottle.

Do you have a home security system you like? A friend recommended Abode, with the caveat that it’s high maintenance. Not looking for something like Ring, that shares video with the cops.

As a past victim of a robbery, all security systems really do is tell you that you got robbed, unless police response is lightning fast.

First of all, I’m so sorry to hear that happened to you.

I may not be using the right language: the most important feature I want is security cameras outside, with footage that we have access to, but is securely stored and is not shared with law enforcement in a way that we don’t consent to. I don’t want anything voice activated or anything indoors. We’d use it to be more aware of our space, etc. Without getting too identifying, we live quite close to a prominent Evangelical space (not a church per se), and my biggest concern is low stakes homophobic property crimes.

Perhaps Wyze? I haven’t checked their sharing/privacy type security stuff in a couple years, but time was that’s what my more InfoSec minded people used.

Ah, that makes sense. Good luck figuring out what works for you!

Does Ring not have an unmonitored by the police option any more?

We have two Ring cameras that came with the house, and they just show us who is creeping around the yard. (Answer - the mailman.)

This is a good overview of the stuff I want to avoid:

I know people with regular cameras… and I think some do wild life cameras. I’d avoid anything smart

Piggybacking on the topic: suggestions for a camera that doesn’t require a subscription? Ring was great when we got it, but then we learned that the ability to rewatch something was an added feature.

I feel like the police won’t be interested in watching the squirrels in my yard, but if you’re in a livelier neighborhood perhaps just a trail camera.

We previously had a security camera that was so dumb as to be annoying - the password had to constantly be reset. Possibly that was operator error, though.

I am delighted to report that I have an answer about the traps that I saw. The trap is back and it was closer to the road this time so I was able to see the labels. The labels say disease study, do not disturb. And I figured out that the solar panel and LED are associated with a low hum. And the net was filled with mosquitoes. So it’s some sort of trap to attract and trap mosquitoes, and they’re presumably doing disease monitoring in the area. Which makes sense given that it’s a creek and breeds a lot of mosquitoes.

Thank you! It looks like there’s a lot of overlap with the organizations listed in the Act Blue link that @chaskavitch posted too.

Yeah, I think that usually when something like this happens the same 5-10 organizations circulate a lot on mostly overlapping lists.

I am once again here with a question on something that I saw on the forum, but promptly forgot who posted it. Did someone post about using a start-up that specialized in ADHD diagnosis and medication? My wife has been wanting to explore getting a diagnosis but has been having a hard time pulling the trigger for a long time, and I suggested this as an option.
