Fellow Californians and knowledgeable folks from everywhere else,

Who the F should I vote for?

I also have this question. Literally no one is qualified and some of the choices are truly terrifying.

Ugh, same. I’m leaning towards paffrath because…he’s totally unqualified but probably not evil? Spouse is leaning towards Falconer because he’s probably not evil and it would be easier for the democrats next year during the campaign to be going after a republican? If 538 is to be believed, Paffrath has more support than Cox but both are trailing Elder by pretty wide margins.

I think you can! It just likely will not cover anything related to their FIV.

What’s a good app for tracking how much time I look at different apps on my phone? Android.

What is this? I assume some sort of trap. It’s in a protected creek area.

Not 100% sure, but looks a lot like a wasp trap to me

It’s HUGE though, a couple feet long, and the net on the bottom looked cloth. It almost looked like a weight type thing from the black part up top. Tiny LED and solar panel on the top it looked like.

However, I am in Washington where they’re trying to track those giant murder Hornets. I don’t know if it’s related to that? We’re in a different part of the state though.

were you able to tell what the text on it said?

No, unfortunately I had a toddler and a dog with me and it was down a slope. Looked like a “property of” type sticker though.

Gotcha. Maybe @CalBal has seen one of these?

ETA: first thing I thought was a deer feeder to try to make sure they’re be there during hunting season, with the little bucket up top to keep squirrels out, but honestly zero real idea

It was up too high for deer to reach it, and I didn’t see any feed bait. Also I haven’t seen any deer in our area. We definitely get coyotes, but too high for that, and we have a ton of squirrels. But it doesn’t look like one of the tube feeders that they bait for squirrel trapping. I don’t know, I’m really at a loss.

We do have a lot of bird diversity out here, and I know we have nesting owls and osprey nearby. I don’t know how this would play with them at all though.

Hm, I have never seen something like that specifically, but it could be a wasp trap baited with known wasp/hornet attractants to try to attract the giant Asian hornets (V. mandarinia) for tracking purposes. This is how some agricultural pests are monitored for - baited traps are set out, and when the pests start showing up at the traps you know it is time to spray for those especially (rather than overtreating). In the case of the giant Asian hornets, they want to know where they are so they can eradicate them. I can’t remember where in the PNW you are, but there has been at least one nest located and removed in Washington state, very recently.

We are in Washington, but a different part from where they’ve been seen so far. We’re at the urban/rural interface of a city. Small scale agriculture not too far away, but nothing intensive.

What do you all have or want for porch furniture? I am looking for something new. I currently have the zero gravity recliner things which are fine, but I think I might prefer something that moves. So… gliders? Rockers? Swivel rockers? I would want foot stools with any of them.

You don’t want my advice over here with my plastic stacking chairs, two folding camp chairs, and an old loveseat.
