Thank you. Google wouldn’t even give me the dignity of a response :joy:

People in my house are going back to work which means I’ll be back in packing lunch mode again soon! Anyone care to share your go-to lunch containers? I need to buy a new one.

If you do Costco and need insulated, my Costco had a really nice looking lunch box soft-sided cooler last week. That’s what I used when I commuted because fridge access wasn’t great.

Alchemist has a short enough commute and good fridge access so she just puts a sturdy sealed leftover container (we mostly have Pyrex Snapware) in her backpack and then pops it in the fridge when she gets in.

Ooo, I am a Costco person! Thanks for the tip. I was also doing pyrex snapware for husband’s lunches previously and it would be nice to keep that up but also have an insulated bag. I know stuff sometimes gets pushed around in the office fridge if it’s loose.

Am I the only person in the world that remembers the song Miss Cindy?

I’m very late to this question.

While I’ve heard “house poor” refer to #1, I would also add a #3 (something else) that I don’t think I’ve seen mentioned yet:

People who live in a home that has appreciated so much over time that the property taxes (+ other maintenance costs) overwhelm their budgets.

This happens to a lot of older people - often in VHCOL and HCOL areas - who are on fixed incomes and have lots of equity in their homes. (The whole industry of reverse mortgages is built around this phenomenon.) They are house poor because it is ongoing cost of the house that is creating the financial struggle, when they aren’t “actually” poor in terms of total assets.

I think this is an important distinction from people who buy more house than they can afford now.

Very interesting! I’ve spent the last 10 years in California, where property taxes are structured in such a way that this doesn’t happen (but it’s been implemented in such a way that it’s been an absolute disaster for the state), which is probably why it didn’t come to mind for me.

That’s a really good point.

Oooh that’s a REALLY good addition.

Does anyone else get sick in the humidity? Why is weather my enemy?

Heat exhaustion related?

Edit: also, if only hydrating with water, try doing some sports drinks. I like diluting them by half and adding 1 of those for every 2-3 of plain water but that’s just what works for me

Humidity kills me. It is terrible. It should be illegal and prosecuted within an inch of its life.

Seriously. Googling “least humid places” and putting them on my potential move list.

Thank you! I remembered Gatorade existed yesterday and it definitely helped. Good idea diluting it; I’ll try that.

I have always lived where it’s humid. Years ago I went with friends to Las Vegas, we got there after dark and decided to walk the strip for a while. We had walked quite a ways and were halfway back to our hotel when someone in the group said “Huh, so this is what zero percent humidity feels like” and the rest of us went “OOOOOOOOOOHH!!” because something had been quietly bothering us but we didn’t know what. The air felt wrong. That’s how much we were used to humidity.

I lived in north Georgia for a hot minute and the lack of humidity was such a mindfuck. I don’t like it when the air isn’t hugging me like a blanket.

Oh good it’s not just me. Pandemic has taught me that I feel better when I go outside at least once a day and look at greenery but also feel the air hugging me like a blanket.

Join me in Colorado! I only have to slather oil on my body to prevent my skin from flaking off for 6 months of the year. (I also hate humidity.)

I’d rather be flaky than have damp clothing all the time, and feel like my showers are worthless in the summer. Ew. Colorado is an awesome place to live, even if I am funding Aveeno all by myself

ETA - I am jealous of how GREEN all of the humid places are, but also they’re humid, and they have bugs, and more cold and snow and dreary weather in the winter.
