I know nothing about royal lineage stuff, but why are Williams kids “prince” and “princess” and not Harry’s? Their grandfather is not King either.
I think that change came about as part of modernizing the monarchy, it was a coincidence that it happened around the same time as she entered the monarchy, and some cousins were asked to give up titles
Because he’s the prince of Wales. When the queen dies and Charles becomes king, then all his grandchildren (including Archie and fetus) get to be princes and princesses, but right now it’s too many degrees of separation.
Because William is next in line to be king after Charles. (The rule has nothing to do with it but many expect Charles to skip and William to be the next monarch anyway.)
The issue - as far as I understand it - is that they were changing the rule so that Archie wouldn’t be a prince even AFTER his grandfather (Charles) becomes King.
And what they really cared about is that these titles - which are all fake and made up and can be changed at any point - means they get very expensive security detail. Which they want because there are death threats against them all the time.
Caveat - I am not a royals expert. I watch the Crown and use twitter.
Who was changing the rules? Was this said in the interview?
I thought that had been the rules and Harry and Meghan were just surprised by it
There was a rule change for this in like 2012 I think, around the same time that they made it that if Will and Kate had a daughter she could be inline to the throne ahead of brothers born after her.
But it doesnt apply to second sons of the Prince of Wales. Though I think normally they would get duke sort of titles
I really hope the context of that is they met in Canada (all her friends were rich and probably had security) and that he introduced himself as Harry Windsor and it took a date or two to figure out it’s the same one from the Diana funeral? Or that she didn’t know royalty is a job as well as birth?
The interview was ages ago, but she made it sound like she had never heard of him, which is what was unbelievable Iirc, she was set up by friends.
Edit: my memory is faulty. She knew his name but said she didn’t know much about him. Claimed anything she learned about him or his family was from him. So she must have missed all the major magazine coverage of his more ridiculous exploits, I’m not a royal follower, but even I know about the nazi costume party and the naked vegas party, and that he served on the front lines in afghanistan.
Apparently her only question for her blind date was “is he kind”. It just seems a bit fake and calculated.
And hey, maybe it was. But that doesn’t also make the british royal family terrible. Both sides of these rumors could be true…
My understanding is that their son can use one of Harry’s lesser titles as courtesy, or he himself would be titled Lord or something as son of a Duke, but they, like Princess Anne did for her children, declined to have him titled.
I think we are the same vintage but I am aware that Prince Harry is Diana’s second child and I remember her death but no memory of these other incidents you’re discussing so I don’t think it’s that far fetched that she didn’t either.
I’m aware he’s Di’s child, and the Queen’s grandkid, but don’t know who his dad is, and I def don’t know those scandals. Also wouldn’t be able to recognize a photo of him. Also can’t summon the older princes name by memory, but know his wife is Kate Middleton.
Meghan may very well be different, but the collection of people I know who work in the entertainment industry follow major magazines to keep up with industry current events, less so for “gossip” but more as a “who to know”. It would be hard to think she never saw his exploits in “People” due to her activity in the entertainment industry.
And knowing she wanted to be an actress when she grew up, it seems especially hard to think she wouldn’t have followed teen magazines, where they were frequently featured (YM, Seventeen, even ‘Tiger Beat’. Though William was always featured as the ‘heart throb’ and Harry the ‘younger brother’)
OK. Y’all can convince me that it’s possible not to know who Prince Harry and Prince WIlliam are.
But I think B_J is quite a bit younger than Meghan.
We’re both in our 30s, but yes she’s older than me. She’s older than me and my brothers, but younger than my sister
I will say that I just saw a photo of Catherine, and maybe it’s ‘pandemic hair’ but I didn’t recognize her.
Okay I’m now aware of why Meghan markle has been popping up on social media!
Does anyone have any recommendations or horror stories for sleeper couches/futons/hideabed couches?
There are so many choices, and I personally have never slept on a comfy futon or hideabed in my life, so I want to know if they exist.
I’ve slept on many, but never a comfortable one. Murphy beds yes though, they can be comfy. I hate hide a beds- they’re so heavy to move, absolutely nightmare haha. I think my virtue of folding you’re really limited on how thick the mattress can be?
I’ve stated on futon mattresses that are comfy on the floor- it’s usually the frames that make those unpleasant IME. But I also like a firm mattress as a baseline, so I’m sure that helps. A soft futon mattress would break down quickly I think.
We’re considering one of those Ikea couches where they’re kind of like a futon in that the back and base combine to make the bed, but it it’s split in the middle so it actually looks like a couch.
I’d love a Murphy bed, but the room we want it for was built in the attic space above our garage, so the side walls are only like 3.5 or 4’ tall
I have the old Beddinge ikea futon and love it and my parents always rave about the sofa bed I have in the other guest room. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/brathult-sleeper-sectional-3-seat-vissle-red-orange-s49217852/
I will say the side arms of the brathult are crappy thin metal, but I just add some pillows to the corners and you don’t even notice. I hide snacks from my husband in the storage ottoman.
