Ah. I assumed it was like a cabinet position that changed with the administration.
I’m looking for a good white bread recipe. Actually what I’m looking for is “best darn white bread you’ve ever had” if anyone has that recipe. There are approximately one billion of them online so I figured I would ask here for favorites. It will be more for toast than sandwiches if that matters. I made that gorgeous no knead loaf a while ago, but didn’t really love the flavor. Do different recipes taste different? Or is it all in my head? It’s probably all in my head! I do have a recipe that I make cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls with, but I’m not sure how to know what fits properly in a bread pan? Is there a basic guide for cups of flour to number of pans? I can use my little 2qt dutch oven too if it’s recommended.
Conveniently saved as a favourite
What are your favourite breads to buy?
Question!
I need to get some sort of “studio light” to make my video lighting suck less. I don’t have a ton of space, but clearly I need something beyond the lights in my room if I want to do any filming beyond daylight hours (and also some consistency in light tone would make editing less daunting…)
Anyone have suggestions/experience with this?
Paging @anomalily and @aaronpk off the top of my head.
ooh this is a deep deep fun rabbit hole to go down!
I’m trying to think of a good first video to watch about this but can’t remember off the top of my head. But someone who does good videos about this kind of thing, especially lighting, is Fellow Filmmaker https://youtube.com/c/FellowFilmmaker
Generally you’ll want to get a large light source, which can be done with either an LED panel or a continuous light with a large dome to make it into a 24” or larger light source. The larger the light source the more it will look like soft natural light.
The problem with the light domes is they take up a lot of space. The one we use in Lily’s livestream is a “mini” dome, also sometimes called a “beauty dish”, it’s a lot shallower than the big ones. The nice thing about LED panels is they are only a couple inches deep, but you do need to get one that’s large, like 12” or more, in order for it to be a soft light. There’s also the trick of shining a really bright light into a large white sheet to use the whole sheet as a diffuser, but that takes a lot of space to pull off.
This is helpful thank you! I kinda do a trashbaby version of that by turning my shadeless lamp to the white wall. But it’s time for an upgrade.
I’ll check out your link.
I need some … project timeline visualization help.
I want to be able to show a metric, such as page visits, against specific events occurring on dates, such as sending an email blast or posting a social media post.
I have a spreadsheet of tactics by date and # of page visits by date.
Any thoughts?
@anomalily would notion be able to do this?
Yup, notion even has a template for it
I saw this https://www.notion.vip/meet-notions-timeline-view/
But a gantt chart isn’t quite what I’m looking for, I think
.
Home canners - do you have online sources of jar lids? Trying to stock up early for the year, and everywhere I’ve looked is either still sold out or exorbitantly priced (looking at you, Amazon…).
No I bought new jars to get more lids. I think I bought some lids back at the beginning of last year because they were magically available on the King Soopers website when I was making an order.
Online, no. My best luck during shortages has always been BiMart.
They’re so hard to come by. I must confess I revert to the paraffin of my youth for jellies in cases like this. But you shouldn’t do it either.
Non-question but I couldn’t think of a better thread for this - NASA’s Perseverance rover will be landing on Mars on February 17th. NASA has ways to watch online including Q&A sessions with high school, middle school, and elementary school aged kids. https://mars.nasa.gov/mars2020/timeline/landing/watch-online/
Also for those with kids, depending on what school looks like for your household this year there’s a bunch of science activities that can be filtered by grade level (although some of the stuff they said kindergarteners could do seemed more like “the parent does this and maybe the kid will pay attention for a minute or two”) https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/edu/learn/tag/search/Mars
Fuck yeah. I’m not a kid, but that seems super cool.
Try local hardware stores, if you have any near you?
I got a shitload of them on Amazon last year and I guess the price gouging hadn’t started yet.
ETA: Another unexpected place I found lids was in the general store attached to a nearby pick-your-own-strawberries farm. They had loads of canning supplies I could not find elsewhere. They don’t ship though and the farm is smack in the middle of no-mask-land so, if it’s like that near you too, might not be a viable solution.
Why does this chair retail for $1,125?
It is on major sale and I need an actual office chair. Just… what makes this one THAT much better than ones that retail for $500-something (and are on sale in the $200s like this one is)? Do you get, uh, gratification from it too?
When using things like apps, websites, what are you okay with in terms of a free/paid/ad-driven/freemium structure?
I’m making something that’s kind of niche and I was thinking I could make the most basic version free, and trying to figure out how I feel good about monetizing more advanced features.
Like is “if you turn on ads or buy the app for $1 you get the advanced features” okay?
Or is the “pay what you want, here’s my paypal/patreon link” the way to go these days?
I’m interested to hear what people think. I honestly have no idea what flies these days.
