at one point I was playing with a retirement calculator that showed you the results if you had retired with the dollar value equivalent of a number in each year
it was a really pretty interface and graphs.
Not firecalc, but one of the early ones out there that showed scenarios, not monte carlo
does anyone remember? I’d like to find it again
(oh, apparently I finally found the right search term and someone in reddit mentioned cFIREsim)
If it’s mold or mildew, it’ll kill it, and might bleach discoloration to. It won’t remove fuzzy stuff all by itself if you have any, but killing it first is better for your lungs anyway if you have to scrub a bit. If it’s plain old dirt, it won’t do much but sterilize.
You might try sealing it up in a garbage bag with a whole bunch of baking soda or plain charcoal for a day or three. Alternately, if you don’t think it will hurt it, spraying or wiping down with vodka might help. For this, you should use cheap vodka. Note I don’t have any idea if the vodka would do anything to the rubber.
I think I got the old iPad in the cloud, because my pictures are now on the new iPad.
But… where are my games that are from apps? If I reload them (they’re free ones, I can do that) will they come back with my levels/settings/scores/whatever’s? I haven’t tried yet…
Was it packaged or unpackaged when you received it? If it was packaged or very freshly made, the scent should go down. But the scent will never go away. And washing it will make it stand out more…we had a few natural rubber items that I can remember washing would take the smell from 2 to 7
Thinking about getting a forehead thermometer. I find the under-the-tongue version painful due to some quirks of my mouth/teeth.
Are they accurate? Can anyone recommend one? Or will any old one from Walgreens do?
From personal experience and per our pediatrician: not really - it’s accurate to the degree that it’ll pick up if you have, say a 102 degree fever vs. a “normal” 98.5ish degree temperature. But you can measure your temperature over and over again and find that it fluctuates +/- 1 - 2 degrees depending on how you hold it. So - if you were trying to figure out if you’re just warm vs feverish, between 99 vs 100.4, it’s much harder.
Ours also converts to a ear thermometer, which I found is more accurate. They’re not very expensive so I don’t think getting one would hurt.
I agree with this take. It can tell you, like, “please go to the hospital you are very very hot” but it’s not gonna be an option for like… menstrual cycle tracking, lol. It’s a decent option for something like daily checks if you’re worried, then switching to an oral for more granularity once the forehead seems a little elevated.
Be sure you read the instructions for your specific unit on how to use it- some have you hold, some have you swipe temple to temple, some have you swipe down to behind the ear then hold. AFAIK the best idea is to just follow manufacturer recommendations, and use a more accurate option as needed.
Sigh. I feared as much. OK.
Ear thermometers are also inaccurate? Maybe I just have to somehow find a thermometer that doesn’t make me feel like I’m being stabbed in the mouth and that is easier to hold in a mouth with an extreme overbite?
