Same question about pants longevity with slightly different specific details -

Mostly wearing one pair, not two
Jeans (decent brand sold at Costco), not yoga pants
Wash every 6 days, not 3
Fairly active because dog care, not toddler

How long will this last?

[Side note - In the before times, there was a rotation of 2 pairs. One for muckier stuff and one pair that was still nicer for everyday human interaction. By the time the grimier jeans died, the nicer pair was ready to be the mucky one & a new jeans would take the nicer slot. In the now times, there is just one pair of daily jeans. Everyday human interaction isn’t really a thing, nor is ‘nicer’ wear.]

Ah, thank you all. So this is definitely another scenario of me having unreasonable expectations of clothing lifespan. I do not know why this is regular thing I fall prey to, but at least now I know to ask about it :joy:

I wish I could wear jeans for more than like 15 min at a time :sob: bah. So much more durable.

Are you willing to patch them?

My jeans are a decade old. About ever year I have to repatch the inner thigh.

But I do rotate two pairs, washing both once a week.

Does he have a litter box upstairs? I’d put one in. Certainly one needs to go where he likes to pee. If that’s in the carpeted closet in the en suite, well, better a litter box than repeatedly having to clean the carpet!

Is this a recent development? Have you checked with the vet?

Thanks @Clare-Dragonfly!

@chaskavitch I also would recommend a vet consult if you haven’t already done so. Cats peeing in new locations can be due to a lot of reasons and can be quite a process if a cat is already frequently peeing in a spot of their choosing. The first recommendation is always to make sure they don’t have a medical condition (like a UTI or chronic cystitis or crystals etc). Then plop a litterbox right at the spot they are peeing most often. If this isn’t possible because of small kids or dogs or whatnot, put a litterbox as close to the spot as possible.

If the cat reliably starts using that litterbox you can move it a few inches daily until it’s in a spot you want.

One big thing is to clean everything thoroughly with an enzymatic cleaner that will remove the urine from the floor. If the spots peed on are carpet you might have to pull up the carpet to check the pad.

There are multiple enzymatic cleaners out there but Anti-icky-poo always had good reviews from clients when I worked in vet med.

The other piece to look at is why he’s peeing where he is. My cats have definitely peed in a corner that a former homeowner’s pet had peed in, so it was a matter of cleaning, sealing the floor, and putting obstacles there.

Is he peeing at all in the current litterboxes? Some cats will develop aversions to the type of litter, or will stop using boxes if they were startled while using it (i.e. they don’t feel secure/safe), or if they were in physical pain while using it (i.e. UTI). You can try adding another box with a different substrate texture - if he’s peeing on carpet upstairs, put a scrap of carpet in the box. If he’s peeing on bare floor, leave it empty. If he starts using that box instead of his normal box, you can add a handful of litter each day to get him slowly acclimated to litter again. If he stops using it and shows a clear preference for a particular texture, just stick with that for now until he’s super reliable about using the box.

I’ve used plastic sheeting in a closet under a box for one cat (a housemate’s cat that refused to go downstairs) and it worked pretty well- I actually stapled it to the baseboard a few inches above floor level just to make sure she wasn’t going to soak the floor if she peed outside the box.

Sorry this is all kind of rambly and all over the place - I’m trying to type on my phone and it doesn’t work well for me.

I hope you figure it out; it can be frustrating especially because cats aren’t typically “lazy” about where they urinate so it’s not as easy as picking up a puppy and giving them a treat for doing it right!

Anyone have recommendations for high cotton content yoga pants? NOT tummy control or high rise. Ideally boot cut and a longer inseam (30” minimum, pref 32”), but I’m happy for any recc to get me started. My current pairs are Champion brand from target, but they’ve long since been discontinued. Everything they carry now seems to be that super slick/shiny athletic fabric.

We had some bloodwork done on him a few years ago, because he’s always been super skinny and a little unkempt, especially compared to our other cat. It all came back clean, but I suppose a new checkup would be good. We also moved in Aug 2019, but he was fine for a while.

I think a lot of the problem is our kids and the dog. Even though they don’t really chase him or anything, he pretty much hides under the bed until the kids go to sleep. I think he just doesn’t want to come downstairs to the litter boxes during the day. He does use them, and mostly poops in the litter boxes, so it’s not total avoidance. He pees in our bathroom closet, bedroom closet, and also on the tile floors in both of the upstairs bathrooms. Unfortunately it’s about as far away from the current litter box location as you can get in our house, so I don’t think we can slowly move it toward the current boxes if we add a new one. That’s an interesting theory about the texture, though, I might have to think about that.

I did just get an enzymatic cleaner and a black light, and it’s so bad. So so bad.

Putting down a plastic floor cover, adding a new box, and just cleaning it every time he pees might be my best option. My husband is not going to like it. He’s to the point where he “jokes” about locking the cat in the garage or out in the tool shed, which would just be sad.

He might have anxiety with some of the changes and peeing outside the box can be an expression of anxiety. It might be worth asking about a trial of anxiety medication to help with re-litter training.

I sympathize - I’ve pulled up carpet in my house because of pet urine; it’s such a pain!

Maybe try REI? I have some from MEC and I know the two places sometimes sell the same own brand things

Can anyone help? I saw a google ad for shirts with holes where a (live) black cat was poking out. The ad changed to something dumb before I could analyse if clicking on an ad for the first time ever was worth it

It came back. Apparently it isn’t a real cat but is real photoshop?

Best product to scrub mold (or maybe it is mildew?) out of grout? Please?

Bleach. Dilite 10:1 with water, spray on, let dry, rinse. If that doesn’t work the first time, repeat with a 1:1 solution (and turn on the fan).

TV: Had Thai food last night, increased the spice level (4/5), was delicious.

TC: Digestive system did not appreciate the increased spice level.

Edit: well fuck, I’m just posting all over the place aren’t I?

How do I get my old iPad contents into the cloud? I always assumed that it automatically did it. I got my new one today and it’s supposed to connect to the old one, but for whatever reason it can’t or won’t or is being mean to me lol. This is why I hate tech stuff

ETA googled it, fingers crossed it works

Muppet got a new training/sit platform, and it smells so strongly! I can tell from the other room when I’ve left it closer to this room versus on the opposite side of the other room. I can’t imagine how overpowering it must smell to him.

Is there any way to get rid of a strong rubber smell (because it’s made with rubber) short of leaving it to air outside for a while?

Our weather has been distinctly not great for leaving things outside of late.

What is it made out of? Could you sprinkle it with baking soda, then vacuum that up? Febreze? Coffee grounds?

It’s this rubber surface and strong plastic mold: https://catooutdoors.com/products/cato-board-dog-place-boards
