How do you do blockquote formatting? The text that shows up when I use the button doesn’t make sense to me.

I highlight the text then hit the reply button. Then it looks like this but with instead of ( )

(/quote)

This is for quoting from an outside source. I know how to do quoting inside the forum

You mean like as if you were quoting a book?

Like so?

That’s done as
(quote)
Lorem ipsum blah
(/quote)

but with square brackets.

The text that pops up in blockquote with a link is auto-generated and I have no clue how that works.

Okay, cool! Thanks

I am delighted (and not in the least surprised) that you used lorem ipsum.

Lorem ipsum delights me. (I am actually a very minor typography nerd… so lots of lorem ipsum.)

What is a “charter review commissioner at large”? Why are there so many positions? Why are the descriptions of candidates so short and shitty and how am I supposed to vote on this?

WASHINGTON WHY ARE YOUR BALLOTS TWICE AS LONG AS OREGONS???

Eta okay I was able to find out about the county charter thing, but why would that not be I. The fucking voter pamphlet?? Also STILL how am I expected to pick when everyone is like “I believe in governance!” Cool thanks :roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

I was gonna try to start a rumour that it’s because there are internal evaluation options on there line the GRE but this isn’t the year to start dumb rumors.

Unless it’s the one about how Louie Simmons (Westside barbell) is Richard Simmons’ little brother. That one I still want to get traction.

Two people on another forum are having a disagreement on a thread I find otherwise interesting and one of them told the other to “calm down.” I want to PM them and tell them not to be a jerk. How do I word this so it is clear why I am calling them a jerk without getting in an argument?

Maybe ask for an example of a time when saying “calm down” resulted in the person calming down and the speaker not sounding like a condescending ass?

Or pointing out that people are passionate about the things that matter to them, and passion is not a bad thing?

Thank you @Smacky and @Bracken_Joy! I used elements of both of your suggestions.

Some of my HSA money is in investments. If I move it back to my regular HSA pot of money are there tax implications? It probably doesn’t help that I’m okay with moving the money back into investments later this year, just not right now.

No, HSA is even more magically tax-free than IRA or 401(k) accounts. The only tax implication would be if you were removing it entirely from HSA and using it for non-HSA purposes.

Is it a forum where being a jerk and name calling are against the rules? Because I can break both rules and get modded and not care

Yes, those are against the rules. In fact, reviewing the user guidelines made me realize that I should have just flagged the post and was probably trying to be too nice by explaining to the poster why they are a jerk, so I did that, too!

Are there even any mods over there any more? Weren’t there like three, and I thought two of them had gotten busy with other things in life and hadn’t been on there much in the last year or so. Although maybe I just wasn’t crossing paths with them (entirely possible).

You know there are more than two internet forums in the world, right? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

This was on the very well-moderated NaNoWriMo forum, not MMM.

I still see notes / interventions from 2 of the MMM mods, but not the third for a long time. But I mostly avoid controversial threads there, so not a statistically significant sample.
