Random Questions

I am looking for a new planner. I will get the total cost reimbursed by work because it is for school so I can go crazy and spend up to $50 on it.

What recommendations do you all have?

What do you want!?

Do you want:

  • daily planner or weekly planner
  • monday or sunday start
  • small planner or big planner
  • a weekly task list or just a calendar?
  • hourly schedule or open boxes?

Does it need to be:

  • portable
  • wirebound (one page display, good for small desks)
  • perfect bound (no wires to catch on things, good for putting in and out of bags)
  • easy to remove pages with add ons or more permanent

Do you like:

  • colorful or more to-the-point?
  • more “calm” aesthetic or more bold?
  • cute quotes or no bullshit?
  • goal setting or just a calendar?

I have lots of opinions lol

I want:

  • Weekly planner with spaces to write things in for each day that is not time based. I also want a monthly overview
  • Less important for priorities but Monday would be preferred
  • Weekly task list
  • Open boxes

It needs to be:

  • about the size of a normal 8.5x11 notebook or smaller
  • lay flat so wire bound preferred
  • more permanent

I like

  • Colorful but as long as it focuses more on blues/greens. Yellow is not a color that matches my gentle ginger complexion
  • “calm”
  • some cute quotes acceptable. This will not be the deal breaker
  • goal setting would be nice, but the calendar function is more critical

This is exactly the list of questions I needed, thank you so much for laying it out like that.

Couple options:

Day Designer:

  • Wire bound
  • Weekly with monthly overview
  • Calm, with a bit of color
  • Some cute quotes but not terribly aggressive

They also have a cheaper version through Blue Sky at Target if you would like that but price isn’t an issue and this one has nice features.

Inkwell Press

  • Disc bound (lay flat, but you can move pages around)
  • Modular, you can build it out
  • Calm and colorful
  • A little more on the aggressively goal setting side, but the colors are nice and gentle

Erin Condren Lifeplanner

  • More colorful than other options, would call it more “bold” then “calm”
  • a little goal-setting-y but no hourly calendar, and pretty adaptable
  • LOTs of cover options

Ones you MIGHT want to look at but fit less of your requirements

Get to Work Book

  • Black & white only but just too the point (one I currently use)
  • no hourly calendar
  • goal setting is to a mininum
  • Wirebound/lay flat

Happy Planner

  • colorful AF but you can kinda pick your theme
  • Disc bound (lay flat, but you can move pages around)
  • very modular so you can build to your needs
  • a little more aggressively YOU CAN DO IT

Passion Planner:

  • straight up just functional weekly planner
  • does have a hourly layout and some goal setting stuff I ignored mostly
  • lays flat but is more portable, is perfect bound

One last thing, if none of the above work and you’re okay with having limited english in your planner but getting to build it out, mochithings is pretty fun:

This one would fit your requirements:

Give me a week without a job or fatigue and I’ll whip something up and slap some cats on it. Tada! OMD app!

You wanna know the worst part of the planner situation? I have designed the pages, but I just do not have the bandwidth for managing production, launch + marketing. I was considering giving the weekly pages to patrons to just print out if they want!

I gotta admit you’re the reason I ever thought of this in the first place a few months ago but didn’t want to presume and be all Hey Greyweld This is What You Should Do When You Quit Your Job, and then thought about it even more when you posted more recently about your graphs.

…and yet I seem to have no problem telling Lily to do all this extra work

I always thought If I made an app, it would be a more functional version of level, which isn’t around anymore but worked really well for a lot of folks.
