I’d wait and see if Halloween will even be a thing this year

My bike is covered by my home insurance, is that an option?

My family wants to know if Halloween is happening please. One kid wants to dress up as Rasputin, the other as Baba Yaga. They need people to see them.

What I love is that I could see this going either way for which kid is which, but I have a Suspicion.

One of them is disgusted and appalled at the idea of being Russia’s greatest love machine.

We were thinking of doing the bowl on a table at the end of our driveway and then we would be sitting close to the garage to exclaim over all the kids. This is highly weather dependent.

This has been my mental image as well. Table, bowl at end of driveway. Us sitting back in chair, oohing and awwing.

My neighborhood used to do a Halloween parade where all the kids in costumes line up and go down some of the streets (very residential neighborhood with low speed limits). They stopped doing it due to low turnout but they’re talking about reviving it with some modifications to distance everyone.

I don’t know if they’ve come up with a candy distribution system yet.

As an update to my earlier mattress question, I went to a mattress firm clearance center today and spent literally 2 hours laying on every mattress in the store. I ended up with a latex+coil hybrid mattress that was originally $4999 ( WHAT :flushed:) marked down to $2199 (Um, still, WHAT!) It was SO comfortable though, and had everything I was looking for and I’m trying not to let the price bother me because it’s still cheaper than another back surgery. I laid on all of the Tempur-Pedic, and Purple, and Sealy beds and they all sucked for my back…this was a smaller “luxury” brand, made in the US, all wool fabric, etc and seemed most similar to the Avocado mattresses I’ve looked at online, except way more $$$ Anyway, I loved the feeling of the latex because it was super supportive, no sinking feeling like memory foam, but still cozy. I hope it’s cozy enough to warrant it’s ridiculous price tag

You know, I discovered that a used luxury SUV wiith heated leather seats that fit me Perfectly was also cheaper than another back surgery. It died on me sooner than I liked, but my back healed first. I bet your mattress lasts longer.

I didn’t get a chance to reply to your question, but my go-to on mattresses is to spend money on quality latex.

I hope you love it!

How happy are you to have a driveway for this?

If it helps with the sticker shock my husband is a PT and this is exactly what he said about us spending money on a new fancy bed last week. He was like “This is cheaper than 8 appointments with me, and easier to get too!”

A good bed is a health and wellness purchase, not furniture.

About 5 years ago I had back problems (like, couldn’t run or bike for 2 months) from too much computering at the dining table, and realized I was also sleeping on a really janky mattress. I had bought it used in NYC, it had survived a bedbug infestation in my apt (heat-treated and then encased in a bedbug-proof case), was 12 years old, and sagged so much in the middle my partner and I would always roll into each other.

Wow, as I type that out it sounds awful. What was I thinking?!

Anyway, this spate of too much computering also led to a windfall of money, and I decided to buy a new mattress. After reading a million reviews on Sleepopolis and thinking about my preferences, I got the standard Leesa which was about $700 for a queen at the time. Fixing my back for real took additional PT work, etc. but I could tell the difference in sleep and back pain immediately. Definitely worth it.

I haven’t found the need personally for a tempur-pedic or other super-premium mattresses so can’t speak to that but I know some people with joint/sleep issues who love theirs.

If you’re want to try what I think of as standard venture capital mattresses, I think both CB2 & West Elm have demos of Leesa and Casper, respectively. If you feel comfortable and have access to briefly pop into a store, you could give them a test flop. Return policies on both are great, just a bit of logistical hassle though.

So glad to find a thread for my random question, yall think of everything.

So my random question is has anyone ever used the website giftcarddeal dot com? They have some really great deals on gift card that they bought back from people. It seems like a legit site and they have a gaurantee and everything but I’m looking to buy a really big $1k gift card and don’t want to get scammed. All Googling tells me it’s a real thing but that the prior owner of the gift card could have kept all the gift card info when selling it and then wiped the balance after the fact causing the GC to be worthless.

I’ve bought off of cardpool before and never had trouble. I think for an amount that big, I would split it into smaller transactions, maybe buy 4 at $250 or even 10 $100 ones to spread the risk a bit.

hmm good idea.

Oooh! Awesome! I’m late to the party to give a response but we have latex mattresses and love them! I got a pricey latex mattress 10 years ago and still love it (although I understand we should probably keep an eye out for problems since mattresses do have lives). Our guest bed is from latex for less, which seems also very high quality. I hope you’re super happy with your latex mattress!
