I don’t have gutters on my house. Is this something I should address?

I feel like the answer depends on where people live and the style of house.

They are common here - but not everywhere.

Yeah, this is going to be running for the next 20+ years, probably with no support after I leave the company, so I’m definitely doing more of the detail and production work than I’d normally do. This is definitely the voting part that I don’t like doing

See, this means it’s a long-term problem for them. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a long-term problem for you. Think about how much they’re giving you in weighing how much you give to them.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for reminding me of this. I’ll document how it works and let them figure out the rest.

Ugh. This is another case of letting the mission run me ragged for bosses who don’t care about me or the mission. (This had the potential to save dozens of lives and reduce lasting harm done to a few hundred people a year.) But I can’t take responsibility for everything in a 15k person org. Someone else will eventually have to step up

See how much run off you have in various spots the next time it rains. If there’s flooding in certain spots and not others it might not be great for your foundation so gutters would help. I actually got a quote from a gutter guy but we haven’t had the work done yet (cause quarantine, then just procrastination). He seemed really straight forward and on the ball though if you want his info.

It really depends on your house’s construction. Ours is bermed and French drained all around and wasn’t designed to need gutters at all, even though we are in a high rain area.

Does anyone know what kind of bug this is/was? Not sure if it’s just the exoskeleton. It is on a leaf of my cherry peppers in my garden:

Picture of bug

likely a cicada (locust) shell. There are 1 year cicadas and 17-yr cicadas. the 1-yrs are out now here (bzzz-bzzz-bzzz droning sound). I find their exoskeletons all over the place (“attached” to things)

Thank you! :grimacing:

they are harmless as far as I know. they don’t chew on the plants or anything like that, and don’t bite humans. They are just big and loud.

Yep, cicada shell. They emerge from the ground and climb up somewhere to molt before they finish their ascent into trees where (I think) they spend almost the rest of their life. I find them everywhere in the garden and when I think about I toss to the chickens, they love them.

They don’t bite but I found out a few weeks ago they drill…as in, into my neck :scream::scream::scream::scream::scream::face_vomiting:

is there a good way to store dresses that isn’t hanging them all up? is folding them acceptable? if I get rid of all my pants over the pandemic and only wear skirts/dresses from now on will anybody notice?

what fabric materials are we discussing? if folded, would they be stored on top of eachother or more rolled Marie Kondo style?

I would mostly fold the cotton sack-y dresses I have and usually I fold things KonMari style but I would be willing to change my ways. I don’t have any more room in my dresser though so maybe?? big clear plastic bins?? idk

We have pooling in our yard whenever it rains more than a little, but I think it all drains away from the house. Wait. No. There’s a spot in the front where two bits of roof converge that pools towards the front porch.

How much do gutters cost? My house is 2 stories tall, even though the section I’m more concerned about is only 1 story. Could I possibly put gutters up myself? Silver lining to gutter installation: rain barrel sort of thing to irrigate garden? Maybe I could be cool like @HaH and get myself a (nananana nananana) * stealth tank *!
