Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! I will try 2 or 3 and reiterate.
Re sustainability… Looking at a comparison last year, I happily accepted it’s finding that any plant milk is a better option than cow. In tea I like unsweetened soy, in coffee I like almond. I need to DIY a cream. I like almond or rice to drink. I like cashew and hazelnut anywhere I like almond, but better.
Also, I have almond milk and nestle quick. I know what I’m doing when the baby is asleep
I was strictly drinking almond milk for probably the past 10 years, but I recently just switched back to soy. I didn’t realize how much I missed it, and also it’s improved so much since I last had it 10+ years ago! I also like that I am getting a little protein in my milk, which was non existent with nut/grain milk options. Oat milk to me is the #1 for coffee drinking, but I don’t do super well with oats, so I don’t have it often. Milkadamia milk is also SO good, but a little pricey.
I need a cider press. Any recs? More agonizing over this in my journal (lol).
How does one carry coffee while using crutches?
One of those beer can helmets?
Travel mug with sealing lid, side sling bag. Alternately, I have set it in a laundry basket at my feet and shoved it with the crutch as I went.
How do you change the size of your words in the forum?
Attach a bike water bottle holder with zip ties?
This is what I’m doing, basically. Also buying a cross body bag. And complaining loudly in my head.

Anyone regularly use C# for programming? It’s been forever since I’ve used it, and even then not very much.
My method is pretty basic:
Beans of dark roast type - this probably matters more than I pay attention to. I mostly use the Costco brand stuff or whatever else I have around.
Coarse setting on grinder - I use the setting for 10 cups for one batch
Put grounds in clean french press carafe. Add cold water. Mine holds about 50 oz. of water. I stir a little as I add the water. It gets foamy so I try to add the water somewhat slowly. It’s ok that the grounds foam and rise to top (this is because of CO2. yay science).
Place cover and refrigerate for about 12 hours. Stir (which usually them breaks up clumps and will cause the rest of the grounds to sink). Refrigerate again. ← Note: I typically prep the batch in the mid morning and the stir right before bed. Times not at all exact.
After 18+ hours, stir and then use clean french press sieve to slowly press.
Ta-da! Cold brew coffee. I will often transfer it from the carafe to a pitcher within the day. I think after 24 hours, you don’t want the grounds to make your coffee too acidic or bitter. But if it’s pressed, it’s not really sitting in the liquid anymore if you’re not shaking it around.
Some people will filter after the press. I used to do this with regular drip pot and filters. I don’t bother anymore. This means that the very bottom of the batch will be thick and silty. Because of gravity, I find it easy to avoid and throw out. I like being lazy in this way. YMMV.
ETA: This makes a concentrated coffee that I think dilutes well at 1:1 whether with ice, water, or milk. I don’t add sweetener, so I can’t say how well it takes different kinds. Also YMMV.
New question! I received a floor lamp on BN. It has a dimmer switch, and the lamp seems to have originated at IKEA.
When I plug the lamp in, the bulb is lit no matter what position the switch is in. Moving the dimmer thing doesn’t seem to do anything at all.
Am I missing something? Is this caused by them using a bulb incompatible with the dimmer? But then why is there no on/off aspect to this switch???!!! At least it should light up and turn off.
I am very confused and prefer not to have a lamp that needs to be plugged in or unplugged to function as on/off switch.
