I realize more and more that I have no idea what normal sized life is like LOL.

It’s possible that with no toddler and a flat or ramp approach to the house, your suggestion would be workable at our sizes! But anything that enters our house has to go up some fairly steep stairs, or over gravel and two sets of less-steep stairs.

We bought an open box one from Best Buy and it came with free delivery. It wasn’t fast, though (they had to get it to the delivery contractors, took a few days). Also, this was pre-COVID…

Measure the space before buying. It’s amazing to me how many people just go buy a fridge and then need something modified to make it fit.

Also be aware that fridges bulge out in the middle a tiny bit. If your space is, say, 36.5" wide at the counter, and the fridge is supposedly 36" wide, it might not actually fit. It’s super fun.

That is… very confusing.

One thing in our favor is that there are no counters where the fridge goes. It’s just against a wall, so the fridge could probably be 6 feet wide and we’d just have to figure out a different spot for our recycling.

If you don’t have any space issues where the ref goes, then just make sure your doorways are wide enough. The delivery guys might have to take the doors off the ref to get it in the house. Your house is really old, right? I assume the doors are narrower than newer homes?

Yes and yes. That is definitely a consideration. Thankfully it doesn’t have to go up any indoor stairs!

To get my fridge I to the house the movers took the front door off its hinges then pulled some trim off a hallway to kitchen door frame to get it through. Check every narrow spot between the sidewalk and the kitchen.

There’s a ~ thing ~ about stainless steel, right? Is it that it gets scratched easily or that magnets don’t stick to it? I care way less about aesthetics than about magnets sticking to my fridge (price is also important).

Correct - magnets don’t stick.

What? It’s like they don’t know what a fridge is for

My fridge has a stainless front, but it must be really thin with something that magnets are attracted to behind the crappy thin layer of “stainless” steel. I was thrilled that magnets stuck to it until upon removing them to give the surface a good cleaning, there were rust marks left behind. I was able to buff off most of the rust off with a magic eraser. I really dislike my stainless appliances!

There is special spray paint for appliances, so if something bad happens you can just spray over it.

But it only comes in white.

(I love white appliances. Cheap, easy to clean, spray paint-able)

Oh! I think I’ve seen a stainless match spray too! : )

It occurs to me that I also have never moved a refrigerator in the normal way. Don’t get me wrong, this has nothing to do with my size or strength, but all I’ve ever done to move a fridge is tell husband where I want it to go and then make sure the cord doesn’t trip him.

My stainless fridge has magnets all over it, I had no idea that was a thing. I wonder if the stainless fridge at the new house can have magnets or not

Our stainless fridge doesn’t hold magnets on the front of it, but the sides do, and one of them is exposed.

Our stainless dishwasher DOES hold magnets, thank goodness, since our toddler is obsessed.

Some people feel stainless smudges easily and always looks dirty but either I don’t have that issue or I don’t care…

Ours is the same, re: magnets.

I think the first SS appliances smudged really badly, but they worked do make finishes smudge resistant. Maintaining ok surface finish is still more work than I thought. But less than black appliance(s).
