Hmm. Under the edge of a shelf or table? They’re fairly short, right? If you go with one in the bedroom, along (or in place of) a headboard?

Seconding the headboard idea. I also like these strung up on a curtain rod behind sheets to give that soft glowy look. I used to tape the string of lights to the underside of my counter ledge back when I had a peninsula thing. They would also look lovely piled up in a bowl or clear vase.

Do you have a closet or pantry space you need lit? That could be a cute way to do it.

How does one remove hair from their armpits when

  1. they have limited hand dexterity
  2. they have a LOT of hair
  3. They have not removed any hair in 8 years
  4. Last time they shaved their armpits, it looked terrible and they had ingrown hairs
  5. current hair is too dark and long (3"/8cm) to see if there’s any ingrown hairs there now
  6. they cannot wax due to a medication they are on

I would be tempted to start with an electric head-buzzer type razor with the guard on to shorten it to start at least?

That sounds so scary. Lol. I looked up youtube videos for tips (all the damn videos are for people with NO HAIR under their arms already removing like ~.5 inch of stubble) and I found this one and it has this description:

"I shaved my armpits for work and it was the worst decision I ever made. I published this so you guys DO NOT make mistakes like this, screw society, grow baby grow. "

Is Nair safer for ingrown hairs/easier?

I so don’t want to remove my armpit hair but frankly I’m tired of policing my workout clothes to avoid other people’s comments and stares.

Effing people.

I hate it. It’s such a recent thing that underarm hair is stigmatized for women (not until the 1940s).

I even get commentary from butch lesbians in gay clubs.

And then on the flip side, there is the fetishization which leads to any picture of me raising my arms to get shared on websites and then tens of thousands of views and I have to turn off comments.

If you want an easy to manage process, scissors then electric trimmer and then electric or razor shave

For ingrowns… clay or silica face masks, scrubs, zinc deodorant or diaper cream and watching and removing. Getting rid of ingrowns there was all about skincare for me

People are gross. Both on the judging and fetish side

I wish I had better advice for dealing with it, either removal-wise or society-wise, but I wussed out on the society end when my hair was at max growth and it was at that point really only noticable under close scrutiny if I went :ok_woman:

Yea…mine is 3" long and extremely dark (I have black hair, and my armpit hair hasn’t been lightened by the sun), and I am quite pale. This means mine is visible from a hundred yards away… and I have chosen a sport that requires raising your arms and you are judged on presentation lol.

Would trimming be a potential partial solution? Maybe result in fewer ingrowns?

I feel like waxing might be the most lacking-dexterity friendly but ouchie.

I don’t know? Growing it out has resulting in 0 pain, so I don’t think ingrowns are under there. But if I trim it, I’ll still get the same commentary. My hair is so dark that it has to be shaved all the way clean to be not visible. Even then, I will have a 5 o’clock shadow by 5 o’clock.

The pain doesn’t bother me even a tiny bit, but I’m literally not allowed to do waxing because I’m on retin-A. They won’t even let you into waxing/sugaring studios and you have to sign a release form saying you aren’t on retin-A.

Ooooh. Gotcha. That sucks.

I assume bleaching it and dying it pink to match your hair won’t fix the problem?

I feel like bleaching it is probably even LESS safe than razoring it off??

I thought I would just TRY it. I have so many cap sleeve/short sleeve dresses and workout tanks that I would like to wear without having to wear a blazer over (which is what I do in professional environments, since apparently FEMME WORK CLOTHING doesn’t have fucking sleeves but also armpit hair is “unprofessional”.)

Sorry I have feelings. I can’t even wear a white long-sleeved blouse unless it is quite thick because you can see my pit hair through it. And that would be fine…except it isn’t for some stupid reason.

When I worked in clubs, before I leaned into the fetish side to profit as a dancer and a model (hairygirls dot com thank you for paying my rent in my 20s), I would have to apply makeup on waxed armpits to cover up growth even in dark club lights!

Your feelings are valid. Both the “eff you society” and the “but I want to feel unscrutinized in this effed up society.”

My skin gets way too irritated from shaving so I just use an electric razor with a guard. I also have really dark thick hair but have noticed that people don’t react nearly as much to visible stubble - even when I shave it to skin level you can still see all the hair under the skin so visually it’s the same either way, but WAY less itchy to leave it at a mm or so! Can you shave to skin level if you’re not supposed to wax? If not waxing is because of skin removal I’d think shaving would be similar? (or is it chemical reaction - I clearly have no idea on that bit, sorry)
