Random Questions

Random Question looking for feedback:

Retailers often have third party representatives pitching various products to customers as they walk by (ie. phone services, credit cards, speakers, etc). In Covid times, what are your thoughts on these practices? Would you be willing to stop and listen/look? Would you run away(head down walking faster)? Do you think this sales approach should or should not be used?

Thanks in advance!

Any unneeded talking with strangersshould be avoided for now IMO.

I mean, I already went out of my way to avoid people like that, but now? If they get closer than 6 feet, that’s assault as far as I’m concerned. (Not that I would report it as such, but I sure as hell give them the finger. Not that I’ll be walking past any humans I’m not married to for the next six months or so. So maybe just don’t listen to me at all.)

I hate this - I hate being accosted with a sales pitch. I am not your target demographic, regardless of what you are selling. If I am interested, I will come to you.

Ditto I actively avoid these sales pitches.

When I was working in the city there seemed to always be people on street corners accosting passers by to get them to sign up to donating to charities. I think they were often backpackers working on commission, and much as I felt for them I avoid them like crazy.

I mean, I did this pre-pandemic. Do Not Want. But especially now that I’m also treating my neighbors this way, some random sales person gets a very hard no from me. This sales job would royally suck.

Just an anecdote, but a friend-of-a-friend (we know each other well enough to nod and say hi, but that’s about it) runs a tiny local restaurant serving food from <her country of origin>. She was considering bottling/selling sauces of the type she uses in her restaurant, and the friend we have in common was talking about how great it would go if she could get into a <grocer selling only local goods> shop and go and give demos every weekend or something along those lines. All of the rest of us at that particular happy hour pretty much cringed in unison, but he convinced her to give it a shot…after one weekend her response was ‘Hell, no, horrible plan and never again.’ And that was without an ongoing plague. She does still sell the sauces and I think has expanded to some larger venues, but defintely not the kind that require her to go and do person-to-person demos and sales.

Can anyone recommend a Twitter app for iPhone? I really hate the official Twitter app. I want it to just show me tweets from accounts (and maybe hashtags) that I follow.

Ooh I would also be interested in this.

ETA: but for Android :c

My kid thawed paneer instead of tofu for tonight’s dinner. The meal I had planned works for tofu but isn’t great with paneer. Does anyone have favourite paneer recipes?

Put on top of spinach, spice to suit the audience, eat with some kind of bread? Paneer can carry any meal imo. I should make paneer.

Yes. I do

Does anyone know why my daylilies aren’t doing great this year? Seems like we’ve had the necessary rain… I can cut off the ugly, but wondered about possible causes.

Do you always mulch with the long bark like that? My first thought is an acidity change if not.

Yes, same mulch I’ve always used. It’s just regular cypress mulch, probably looks longer in the pic than it actually is.

I did use some spray animal repellent for the first time this year. It says safe for plants on the bottle and all my other types of plants are fine, so I don’t think it’s the spray?

We have a really variable spring - it got warm twice very early, then got very cold again. So plants started to emerge, then would get chilled or even frozen back (repeat). Did you have unusual spring weather?

Any chance they need a little fertilizer?

We did have an odd spring, but shouldn’t all my plants be affected? I have never fertilized, maybe I need to. I generally just do the same things my mom does which might not be the best things. Lol. I have lots of plants, I should probably learn more about them! Going to go cut off the ugly and see what happens in the next few weeks. Hopefully they are green and beautiful.
