Does anyone have ideas for gifts for a 7year old girl? Suburban, lots of toys and clothes and stuff

Does she have hobbies or interests?

*I realise that sounds blunt but am tired and trying to remember what I wanted at 7.

She…likes her dad and making her dad buy her stuff on Amazon. And he does.

Usually I know what to get for this age range (books, clothes, “adult” or “teen” items, Lego, crafts)

Would it be awkward to give her like a $10 note or something so she can have the fun of going shopping with her “own” money?

Large lot of beads and cording?

I used to love the Klutz books at that age and a little older. Magic tricks, cats cradle, etc. It’s a “thing” but also an activity.

Also gave my nephew a glue gun around that age (pre-approved by his parents) with a box of pom poms, wood craft pieces, and googly eyes. Big hit.

Talk to me about your baby gates. New place has a 3 step up entry way that’s 54" wide then immediately to the right of that stairs leading up that’s 33" wide so I’m hoping to get 2 that at least match that are walk through. We currently only own a plastic pressure gate that we move around.

And of course as with all baby stuff, FB marketplace has people that want me to drive 30 miles and pay only $10 below retail for used ones so I may just end up back at buy buy baby.

Is there a difference between “boy” and “girl” toddler training underwear (other than color/pattern)?

Like actual cotton underwear? I think boy underwear has a tiny bit more fabric in front for their junk so underwear cut for girls wouldn’t sit quite right but a toddler might not notice. The difference between boy/girl underwear is tiny compared to the bulk of diapers/pull ups vs. underwear.

I did buy “girl” underwear for my son at one point because he grabbed it and wanted whatever character was on it and I just didn’t have it in me to fight about it at the store, but at home once I looked at them it didn’t make sense to add them into the rotation.

Yeah I think there’s a bit more room in boys undies. It’s not much but it’s there.

If you mean Pull Ups (diapers that you use like underwear), we’ve put the kids in whatever we had or whichever character was on the front that they liked. Boy in pink/girl in blue were both fine as far as not-leaking goes. :woman_shrugging:t2::+1:

When do babies start napping without a nipple in their mouth? Is it soon?

Depends on the baby, depends on how and how much you try to change it, etc. I have found Precious Little Sleep to be useful for quick “wtf do I do now” consultation on sleep, but have 2 parents in a room and you’ll have 3 opinions on sleep

Do I actually need to brush my 11 month old’s 5 teeth? Or is that something pediatrician’s tell parents and then laugh behind their back because it’s impossible?!!

I’ve watched YouTube videos but none of those babies bite down on the toothbrush and grab the handle with both hands like mine does.

I found a teether for my kid to use that had bumpy bits and called it a win. If we managed to brush as well, awesome, but yeah uncooperative kids are hard.

I started later for both my kids (at around 2) but they had their teeth at 12+ months. Here pediatrician recommends using a wet cloth/ compress before 2. Brushing my 3 yo girl is still a struggle. She bites down the toothbrush, sometimes claw her teeth, or refuse to open her mouth. Apparently it helps to start when they’re young so that they have the habit so even if you don’t manage to brush any actual teeth, at least it’s part of the routine.

Do you have any tips on getting toddlers ready in the morning? I have 2 (3 & 5 yo) and getting out of the door in the morning is a constant battle. The 3 yo girl wants to choose her outfit and throw a fit if I can’t give in (not appropriate for weather or not clean). The 5 yo boy is easier even though he has favorites but he takes forever to put any clothes on, so I find myself dressing him to get it over with.

Do you repeat outfits on consecutive days? I sometimes do for the boy and I feel bad about it. Growing up my family was very modest and I was often mocked for my lack of trendy clothes. It was later on though. Still I feel bad about it and want him to be always well dressed.

How do you manage the never ending battle with clothes and laundry? I do several loads per weeks and still find it difficult to have complete outfits in the morning. Especially for the girl. The boy has a ‘capsule’ wardrobe, everything matches and there are fewer types (pants/ shirts/ blazers and that’s it). Maybe I should do the same for the girl but I have never been into fashion so it’s hard to know how to ‘dress her well’.

Um, my kid wears the same thing as long as it isn’t too dirty and doesn’t smell. That reduces laundry! You have my sympathy for the impact from your own childhood. My kid also often doesn’t wear clothing that all “matches”, just as long as it’s a top and bottoms, and weather appropriate. Kid #2 who is on the way is going to wear all the clothing we saved, regardless of their sex. I think if your girl is interested in picking her own clothes, you’re winning as long as it’s weather appropriate (any chance you can edit it a little to only offer her weather appropriate choices?). Kids look cute in anything

(But if you still feel bad about it - hugs.)

Thanks for your reply. I do edit but she knows the items she wants. So sometimes she says I want to wear my butterfly (a short sleeve shirt with a butterfly design) :joy:
