Place baby in safe area to practice skills, then you can doze nearby? I definitely had naps on the yoga mat and couch while Duckling was inside his baby yard.
Yeah, he used to go back to sleep with cuddles so I have to remember it doesn’t work anymore. Bed is no longer safe to play on so today I took him downstairs to play on the rug with toy basket. Car seat nap has worked, hallelujah, so I’ll take it for today. Now I’m cold and hungry… someone baby ME!
Right now Lily is practicing her army crawling on the floor and I’m semi-dozing in bed and reading the forums. I’m all for putting her in a spot that is safe and trying to sneak a few more minutes of sleep.
Honestly I kinda only believed the “later bed time makes them wake up earlier” with like, extremes of sleep timing? But we moved her bedtime back from the 7:15/7:30 it had been to 6:30/6:45 and she started sleeping a little later (like 5:30-6, but that was later) and last night we mismanaged our park time and didn’t get her to bed until 7:30 and lo and behold, she woke up at 4:30 today and we only got her down to doze a min more and then were up for the day. Aka that might actually be true and I need to move her bedtime to 6:30 more strictly? So weird. Children are weird. I have a headache.
Bedtime is usually 7:15 for us but last night we didn’t get home until late and the girls went to bed at 9:00. Both were up at 6:00 on the dot this morning, which is pretty normal for them. They are both usually up between 5:45 and 6:30.
That was the first time we’ve ever let Bella stay up past her bedtime. Usually we say “no” to any event or invitation that will interfere with bedtime, but we decided once wouldn’t be a big deal.
This is 1000% true for my kid. The later she’s up, the earlier the wake up. I don’t get it.
It’s kind of sad, I had pushed her bedtime back a little bit so that we can enjoy the local park when it was shady, which it is in the evenings. But I guess that’s not really a viable option. I was hoping to get a little more summer fun squeezed out.
Guys, what the fuck can I replace cocomelon with
Like, for songs or just screen time that doesn’t make the parents go insane?
For screen time, we just discovered the Bluey is on Amazon. We are into it, Kiddo less so. Sigh. PBS Kids is also a thing, lots of variety there.
Yeah he’s really into watching cocomelon and it is not a good show. Like the songs are fine I guess? But not their best versions. And also the show is not watchable.
Today it was Luca vs Cocomelon and every adult groaned when Cocomelon won. Kid has questionable taste.
Maybe Fantasia will work?
I’ve heard really good things about:
Bluey
Daniel Tiger
Blippi
Caillou and Peppa Pig are straight from hell. Mickey Mouse clubhouse and bubble guppies are fine but annoying.
ETA around here we do Twenty Trucks Truck Tunes a lot. She’s a big fan of Mail Truck, Rock Crawler, and RV
Peppa pig for serious situations like nail cutting.
Disney documentaries
YouTube nature documentaries
Family movies like Paddington or cruella
Latte loves videos of people dancing- we’ve watched Irish step dancing, flamenco, Bollywood clips, ballroom dancing, belly dancing, all sorts of stuff.
She also likes videos of chickens- there’s lots of full length barnyard feeds on YT.
I did not admit to it, but lion likes videos of sports and races and monster trucks. I don’t put those on.
Also music/videos
Pen pineapple apple pen is a favourite
And circus music
Pooh Rockettes doing can can
Cocomelon is the absolute worst.
In our house toddler likes “zoo shows” aka secrets of the zoo, the zoo, etc. They are behind the scenes of different zoos. I very much encourage this.
Bluey is pretty good. We also like gymnastics recently with the Olympics coming up.
He does get into Blippi but Blippi can be … A lot. Overall we’ve lucked out with the things he likes but Cocomelon is just… Bad. Maybe I can make a YouTube playlist of the Laurie Berkner band. And dance is a really great suggestion!!!
Also, our docus of choice are currently endless clips about black holes, planets, and concepts from physics??? Hilarious what kids gravitate to
We watch Lego builds. BrickBuilder channel is good. Also a bunch of things from Netflix like Mighty Trains (Duckling loves the part where the engineer gives the trains a hug after checking them over), True and the wishing tree, Cory Carson, Abby Hatcher.
Filling all these away for future…
But also, real name used here, you might want to change?
Cheers for the name catch.
I can go through our watching history and let you know what seemed good.
We’re not at tv time yet but I’m slowly learning what shows/videos are good and not so good to watch to keep my sanity
