Are there any level 2 books that take more than 3 minutes to read?

I am not super familiar with the levels but some of our fave Dr. Seuss books take for freaking ever to read. Especially Hop on Pop and Fox in Socks. Apologies if you hate Dr. Seuss, I will not be offended

Also there’s this book called Pickles the Firecat that I remember being absolutely interminable. It has chapters. But I just Googled it and it says level 1 so. IDK.

Level 1 is great! He is like a 1-2 but all the 1 books are over so fast and then he needs more. The 2 ones also but at least they semi challenge him.

Update: I grabbed the first Zoe and Sassafras book from a bookstore today because we are already at my parents house for Thanksgiving and we ran out of magic treehouse books by noon. When I brought it home Pipsqueak said “Oh! Sassafras!” So I guess she’s already seen it at preschool lol. She’s excited to read it (again) tonight.

Thoughts on transitioning to a toddler bed?

Our kiddo sleeps so well in the crib and the rail it only goes to his collar bone/chin/armpits so he’s not at risk of climbing out. He’s between 18-24 months.

I’m worried if we transition too early he’s going to be a bad sleeper and not understand getting back into bed.

Idk how to know the right timing! We are having a second kiddo in less than two months so we are deciding if we get a toddler bed or a second crib.

I’ve always been team wait until they NEED to be moved out. You don’t wanna be tackling baby proofing and house wandering in your older with a newborn. If you’ve got the resources to add a second crib for the bub, I recommend that instead.

I know kids who didn’t switch out until preK. They didn’t seem traumatized by it lol.

Agree with all of this 100%.

Kid #1 came out when she asked to. She was at least 3 1/2, but I don’t remember when, and we didn’t even have a crib, she was in the pack and play. Kid #2 is 3 1/2 now and is still in the crib. I know she could climb out but she likes her bed and is not inclined to do so. I’m not moving her until there is a catalyst. She did say she can’t wait to have a big girl bed like her sister but she didn’t press it so I let it drop. If I were having a baby, I’d be getting a crib.

I moved out BB at 15 months because I was 8 months pregnant and couldn’t physically and safely lift him in at my height. It was fine at first but caused problems later.

How tall is big sib to be? Technically cribs are only rated to 35 inches so I moved the cuckoo when she hit that mark and was trying to climb out.

I went to elementary school with a girl who had a life changing traumatic brain injury. I remember this being from falling out of her crib.

(If you need another crib/toddler mattress I’ve been trying to unload the cuckoo’s. It’s a Moonlight brand one so it’s pretty nice and she only uses it 2 years because she preferred the twin bed in her room to the toddler bed.)

I didn’t have the sibling factor, but one day Kiddo basically said “Hey mom watch this” and showed me how he was able to climb out right at bedtime. I was on high alert that night and in the morning I went in before he woke up (which I usually didn’t do) so he wouldn’t try climbing out alone.

After work I took the side off the crib and took the twin mattress we already had in the room and shoved it up next to the crib. Kiddo was so thrilled he moved all blankets and stuffies onto the twin and never looked back.

The next week of sleep suuuuuucked because he wouldn’t go to bed. There was a whole new room to explore! Every single book and toy had to be removed, and I think the corded lamp he wouldn’t leave alone (the plug was behind furniture but the lamp itself was alluring). It did slowly get better but oof. I don’t know if it’s that hard with other toddlers.

Just 2 facts in case anyone is struggling with their parenting and self esteem. Yesterday I got up and B2 was covered in my retinol serum, today I got up BECAUSE he was eating laundry detergent sheets.

Am there with you, and I’m so sorry. Today it was 3, and there’s been 3, 3:30, 4, 4, 4:30 this week. Might die, idk.

Larva’s favorite series is Ivy and Bean, with Junie B Jones a relatively distant second. I’m trying not to burn through every single entry-level kid series before she can try them on her own, so I’m hoping some longer novels stretch things out. Right now we’re halfway through Beezus and Ramona.

She also just got her own library card so I’m letting her go nuts and randomly grab a handful of picture books every visit and see what we get.

Edit: we also tried a few others mentioned. I liked Zoey and Sassafrass, but she wasn’t too interested. Judy Moody, Dragon Masters, and the Questioneers she wanted to stop halfway through each. She also likes Princess in Black!

Mo has started to say poop either just before or just after she poops so we’re considering giving potty training a go at 18 months.

Preferred methods?

The Book “Stress Free Potty Training” is my recommendation for outlining a few different options and how they work best for different personality types.

(ETA but we did delayed potty training after she turned 3 and that worked great for my family)
