OOTD: Share Your Looks!

It’s so cool that you can just MAKE pants. Like, I know that is what you do. You design clothes and you make them. I know that. But somehow seeing a picture of you in pants you just made is like wow, she made those! That’s so cool! Pants don’t get made in my world, they get bought from a store.

To be fair that’s kinda how I feel about you and cakes sometimes :upside_down_face: lol!

Excellent job. Pants are the one thing I have never tried because I am intimidated. Maybe I should make it a goal!

Knit fabrics are more forgiving for pants, so if you have the capabilities to see knits I’d recommend starting there. Or woven pajama pants, those aren’t too bad either.

But aren’t knits harder to sew (stitch type, stitch length, tension, thread type]?

I haven’t sewn for YEARS! My mom’s old Singer definitely did not have any stretch stitch!

I don’t have an overlocker, so I almost always sew with wovens (except I have done underwear in knits and it isn’t too bad). I do already have needles appropriate for knits though, I just keep procrastinating trying.

But I have 2 different pairs of pants I would like to disassemble and recreate, because they don’t really sell that style any more and they fit me beautifully (but I can’t wear them anymore as they are way too worn). I know I can do it, it would be challenging mostly because any fit issues would be very different than what I experience for shirts and dresses. But I am inspired! I should just go for it!

Maybe PJ pants first though, I think they would be simpler, plus who cares if they turn out a little wonky?!

You need a zigzag stitch to sew stretch fabrics, or a double needle option on a straight stitch machine. Or an over locker, but other than that I find knits much easier to sew if you have the right equipment. There’s less fit issues.

If you can find cheap knit sheets at goodwill you could seam rip your existing garments, trace pattern pieces onto paper and make a muslin out of the sheets. That way you aren’t spending $$ on the real fabric while your still troubleshooting fit

Oooh, GREAT IDEA!

The stretch may not be exactly the same depending on what actual fabric you choose, but it gives you a starting point at least

This is one of my most comfortable “look decent” outfits. The best thing about this sleeveless blouse/maxi skirt combo is that they fit me when I weigh 125 pounds and they fit me when I weigh 160. They’re also super easy to fit in a suitcase, and don’t wrinkle. Tonight I wore them to a birthday party.

The top is one of the many hand-me-downs I scored when my mom retired and didn’t need her professional wardrobe anymore. I would probably never have picked it out, but I like it.

Please excuse my daughter’s clothes all over the floor. (Sigh)

Belated OOTD. Love this dress and the polka dot tights (which leave funny little polka dot imprints on my legs after a full day)

Bonus OOTD: cute in a slouchy way, or too wearing-a-sack-ish? (Cozy as all get out. It’s getting into the 50s at night now!)

People like to hate on the cold weather but I LOVE IT. I get to wear all the hand knits I’ve been pining over in the sweaty months and I am so happy.
