On my way to a brexit Halloween party- I’m the Irish backstop. In other news, it’s really hard to photograph your own back
Very real question that sounds silly:
I have a job interview for a data role at a creative agency today, where I was told the dress code is “very casual so wear what makes you feel comfortable.” However my favorite tailored blazer is hot pink and now it doesn’t match my hair (I went from hot pink to more magenta 2 weeks ago).
Should I wear this to a job interview?
- Yes, wear it, you’re already extra as heck
- No, it doesn’t match

Wearing a standard black interview dress underneath, with black tights and slight heels. I figured the FULL hot pink suit was a little much even in Portland.
Do you have an idea of what other people wear to work at that company?
I have no idea how this advice changes with creative fields, but a piece of advice I heard ages ago is that later on you don’t want the interviewers to remember you as “That chick with the hot pink jacket” but rather “that super awesome candidate with strong x and y skills”. The purple hair is not noteworthy at my casual company (I wear jeans and a tshirt every single day) but the hot pink jacket would definitely turn you into “That one person wearing [clothing item]”.
Most people probably wear jeans and tshirts or tshirt and hoodie because it’s Portland.
I actually own mostly bright colors since I’m on camera a lot and in media, colors are essential. My alternative blazers to this are a white cape blazer and a pinstripe blazer with a hot pink lining In media, not weird. Creative agency, I’m likely to be more dressed up.
I guess I figure I’m memorable for my fashion no matter what - even in casual environments I’m the most dressed up person in the room 90% of the time in Portland.
@anomalily I’m not averse to the blazer on its own (for an interview) but I do think the colors compete and pull focus away from your face. I’d say wear something else because of that, but also because when I wear stuff that I know doesn’t really match/work I’m thinking about it the whole time I’m wearing it. For job interviews I want to feel 100% about my look and not have doubts, but my clothes really affect how I feel so obviously ymmv.
Yea…Hmm. I’m gonna look through my blazers options. I have a black one that’s super boring but it doesn’t have pockets, I love this one because it has pocket big enough for my phone.
You should def go with what you feel confident in!!!
Also…where’d you get that dress?
That is very nice - love the dres (little zipper pocket at the waist?)
I hate that about black (and white) - like how are there different colors all called black? But, how different they look will depend on the lighting so much.
I got it on poshmark, but it’s maggy london which I love because they make slightly interesting workwear with wearable fabrics, super durable, and 0 of them you have to iron.
Looks like the fabric is a heavy non-clingy knit. I like all the seaming details (a bit moto?)
Yea, it has a notched color, and little zipper detailing which makes it kinda moto. This one is a super thick knit with a lot of spandex. Looks expensive but mostly it just is comfortable.
If it were me I’d wear the pink jacket. But I also really appreciate a well tailored garment maybe more than the average human.
I’m very conflicted but also realize it doesn’t matter. I feel so “boring” without the pink jacket. But the pinistriipe one is fine. I guess I’ll just accept it. I switched to pink oxford shoes instead of plain black flats so at least there’s more color.
to be clear every single jacket I own is tailored because I am under five feet tall so that is the only option, lol. It’s just that some are professionally tailored and some are me tailored.
Oh, I forgot, I have one jacket that is from a japanese gothic lolita shop and THAT is not tailored. Because I am average japanese lolita wearer size. One exception.
I accidentally clicked ‘no’ on the poll but I meant ‘yes.’ I would wear the pink! Your hair is already dyed two neon colors. I say go for it.
