But then they’re all the more precious! that’s what I tell myself here in the PNW about blue skies anyway. We appreciate it more because we see it less!
Oh. That is a beautiful, beautiful day.
(It’s grey here today, which I suspect is both of our usuals)
Definitely - sunny days and starry nights feel like a real gift after a long dreich spell.
Meanwhile we’re adding the phrase sucker hole to our vocabulary as we get plenty of those too!
My grandma on my mom’s side is from Ireland. (Well, she was in utero or very young when they moved to the US I think?) anyway I was always raised being told how similar the climates of the UK and the PNW are and that’s why my great grandma chose to come here lol. I personally haven’t been over to confirm but it sure sounds like it.
I’ve gotten my 8000 steps in every day this week! I’ve also had to go into the office everyday this week, where I have to go to a separate building for pumping and upstairs in my own building for bathroom (no bathroom on my floor). Between that and a short walk at lunch, I easily make the 8000 steps.
But… it’s exhausting, I don’t like going in every day
Joining. I do much better mental health-wise when I get at least 2-3k steps/day, and more is better up to about 10k. I spent much of November/December on my bed watching youtube due to brain weasels, which was not good for me. I think I am coming out of the doldrums and made myself go for a walk today since it wasn’t pouring down rain. Baby steps, literally.
I was able to get on the treadmill today after over a week off due to the flu.
1.14 miles in 33 minutes.
If you walk far enough or fast enough maybe the brain weasels won’t be able to keep up.
I did other non-walking exercise.
My legs are longer than theirs, that’s for sure!
Note to self: Just confirmed that I have walked over 3k steps/day all but one day this week. And my mood has been considerably better. There are other reasons for that, too, but I think it is not just a coincidence.
I’ll probably document week by week unless I have nice photos
Mon (1/1): 1hr at shoreline park
Tues: 90 min excursion to downtown
Wed: walked to dinner (maybe 8-10 min each way)
Thurs: break
Fri: 10 min stroll around parking lot after lunch (yay habit change)
Sat: 2hr at farmers market. Also we parked all the way across the park (not ambitious, it was just busy)
This next week I want to work on a morning walk habit. 5 days of walks when I get up. Even 5-10 mins.
Thought today would be a loss, because AM we had final family Christmas and then it was storming and hailing. But it cleared up at sunset and I forced myself out with the smidge. Got a little sky color to enjoy, and she napped well, and no surprise downpours.
Nice long walk with Wizard today, plus a walk to the grocery.
Went to the Joan of Arc parade last night and clocked over 11,000 steps!
40 minute walk yesterday at about 4 pm. We saw more people out without dogs than normal for this time of year, so I wonder if we were seeing some New Years resolution walkers. Excited for them if so, if they like it I hope it sticks.
Picked up an order from the butcher, and decided to walk back by way of one of the smaller hills
Please note that there are bumpers around the trees and poles at the bottom of the hill in preparation for this first semi real snow fall of the year (you can tell how little snow we got by how brown the bottom of the hill is already)
Not the greatest start this week with 4-5 miles total, mostly because the majority of meetings I’d have been walking in were cancelled. I can walk during meetings where I’m listening or presenting or when I’m putting together a slideset or overview for something, but when I’m actually writing code or doing debug or whatever (all those things that actually resemble my job description) it doesn’t work so well. I made up for it a little bit with more trips to the grocery store than should have been necessary (go me?), but hoping to double this number next week.
ETA: Also realized I was technically skiing for the first part of this week since apparently it was New Years and I wasn’t at work either, but not counting that since I’m not sure how I could anyway.
Good walk yesterday! Only 30 minutes, dog was being weird. It works out that the best time for the rest of us to walk tends to be when the dog’s anxiety meds are wearing off, so he’s been a lot worse on walks lately. Hopefully we can time it better in the new year and work on bad habits.
We saw fewer people and were joking that people were already over their resolutions (it was cold and gross out).
