I’ve been obsessed with Sammy Rae and the Friends or the last couple of weeks. It’s gorgeous and jazzy and full of life.
It’s been a This Will Destroy you kinda week. Good for focus work, good for staring at snow out the window. Strumming guitar, circular melodies, moody af.
I am considering switching from Spotify to either TIDAL or Apple Music. Any thoughts on them, if you’re a user? I found out there are services that will transfer playlists over, and that’s really the only thing tying me to Spotify. TIDAL pays artists a bit better, I believe? And I already have an iPhone/iPad so Apple Music would be very compatible with my device life lol.
These are the services I’ve heard of friends using successfully, in case anyone else is trying to make a switch too! Soundiiz is paid, SongShift is free. I have SO many playlists that it’s something I’m willing to pay for if needed.
I’m pretty happy with Tidal. I found it to be easier (for me anyway) to use than Spotify and I feel like there’s more variety.
The latest Mitski album slapppppppps
Got tickets to my first post-wedding show! Seeing Caitlyn Smith! RIYL Ruston Kelly, Ashley Monroe, Cam, Maggie Rose, Brandy Clark. Listening to her 2018 album now.
The new Spoon album…this is my favorite band for a reason. They always sound 100% like themselves, yet they always experiment with different sounds and keep things fresh. All of their albums could have been released yesterday. They are now on a streak of TEN good albums in a row. I am constantly in awe. Worth the five year wait, and the $106 it will cost me to see them in Chicago with fiancé!
Saving this for later exploration!
Incredible album and new artist I discovered. She doesn’t even have a wikipedia entry yet? (injustice!)
The song is fine and all, but I mostly just want to look at her.
It definitely helps!!!
I’ve been having a great time diving in bargain bin vinyl. The Windham Hill has been soooo comforting as of late.
Moody Monday calls for modern, atmospheric piano.
Unfortunately I found out about this band due to a death notice for one of its members, but they are good. Straightforward indie rock. RIP. RIYL: Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. They remind me of something else too but I can’t quite put my finger on it.
OK. I figured out what other bands they remind me of. Bass is very PJ Harvey. Song structure can lean Nirvana at times (but less hook-based). Unsurprising since both of those groups would have been contemporaries!
I’d never heard of them before today, but 64 is young to die and I work in the Oregon town he lived in.
