I like how diverse the list is with music from a lot of different countries.
This is my favorite country album of the year.
FYI the youtube playlist is out of order. At least it seems complete?
This is just a perfect little EP that I stumbled upon. Had never heard Anjimile before but their artist description that is only āsad & gayā speaks to me. They have a lovely voice that reminds me of Arlo Parks a little bit and the music is full of lush strings. Their other work seems to be much more singer songwriter, stripped down voice, guitar, and a little percussion, which is also nice. But I just want more like this EP. Highly recommend for a quick listen.
Nice discovery! Iād never heard of them before either but Iām really enjoying this music.
Glad you like it!
Itās finally time to share my favorite Christmas album of all time. Most of it is pretty mopey as one would expect from Low, but beautifully mopey.
Hereās my favorite Christmas album. I had it on cassette tape.
Love Low! Their new album is a contender for my favorite of 2021.
Widowspeak is a new find for me. Lovely stuff. Spotify says Fans also like Wild Nothing, Real Estate, Lower Dens, Beach Fossils, Tennis, Jay Som, and Dum Dum Girls.
Straight up buzzy guitar in my ears today! Fuzz is one of Ty Segallās aptly named bands.
I love a lot of the youtube comments:
āHow do just 3 musicians fill this much space without everything sounding muddy? This band fuckin slams.ā
āIām a 65 year old who thought I had heard it allā¦I feel that I am qualified to sayā¦Ty Segall is an absolute geniusā¦NO ONE in the history of modern rock music has ever operated at this level. Ty and company donāt need no stinking corporate label to rock! Simply the most brilliant musician on the planet !ā
āEvery song sounds like a greasy spell is being cast. Love it!ā
Bopping to the new Weeknd album. A fascinating voice in pop. All of his songs are just slightly spooky in a way I love.
Do you like Leon Bridges? Sharon Jones? You will also like Durand Jones & The Indications. Retro soul sound.
I missed this thread earlier ā gonna have to work my way back through it! I started another āBig Music for Big Feelingsā thread, but Iāll post some of my other favorites here.
Any Mark Knopfler fans? I really love the soundtrack to the movie Cal. Except for track 10, Fear and Hatred, which is really dissonant and not pleasant (probably drove something in the movie so I get that it is there, but usually skip that one).
Ooh ā just learned there is a whole album with a bunch of his different soundtrack hits on it! Called SCreenplaying.
How did I not know he did the soundtrack for The PRincess Bride?
No worries, itās mostly just me in here lol! How would you describe your musical taste? Perhaps I can recommend some things.
As you will see from the other thread, I am kind of stuck in the '80s/90s.
After some early purchases of standard late '70s pop like Abba, my first musical obsession, adopted from my sister who got into them when she was in college, was The Who (wanted a vespa and all that). My favorite radio stations at the time were very much British New Wave plus US indie stuff. The Police were my first concert (Synchronicity tour). Morphed into more gothy stuff (Bauhaus, This Mortal Coil). Still love all the '80s/90s big sound bands like Simple minds, U2. In the 90s I got more into feminism and music that matched ā Indigo Girls, Tori Amos, Sara McLachlan, 10,000 Maniacs/Natalie Merchant. Past the mid-late 90s I didnāt really buy much music anymore.
I will work on a list of stuff for you to try!! I like many of the bands you listed
I came across an awesome compilation of 60s/70s folk/folk rock all by Native North American artists. This song in particular is maybe one of my favorite songs Iāve ever heard? Definitely my favorite new song of all 2021 when I first heard it in December. The lyrics are freaking astounding and it gets WAY better when you hear the music the guitar is straight up chilling
Also itās way more upbeat and funky than youād expect given how beautiful the lyrics are
I love that album! I went through a big Light in the Attic period a few years ago and that was definitely a highlight.
Itās early 2000ās hip hop day. Keeping the mood upbeat on a Friday!
This one is so obscure Spotify doesnāt even know it exists. But it is one of my favorite ambiant albums from the late 80s. From former members of Japan after that group dissolved. Listened to it last night when I couldnāt sleep and loved it just as much as I did at age 16.
Here;s the link to the full album:
I didnāt realize there was an accompanying video for at least the first song! Now thatās cool. Thank you Youtube and Japan fandom world:
I put the last song āI Move In Circlesā on many mix tapes back in the day.
Ambient albums from the 80s is my love language
