Objects of Desire

This is me too right now. It hasn’t happened in a couple years, but suddenly I need to buy All The Things. I really should be saving for a house downpayment, but instead I seem to have a long list of “needs” that seem more important.

I’ve gotten better at embracing it over the years. I can pretty directly see that there’s a leap in our quality of life each time I give in. I consider the stuff that doesn’t work out a surcharge on the process lol. Sometimes the shame spiral still makes me sick to my stomach. But if this needs to be cyclical for me to buy things to improve our lives (and sometimes straight up needs, like new shoes!) then so be it. :grimacing:

We need new ice cream bowls, and I want these:

Ridiculous, I know. I would maybe plop down the $, but they are made of BONE China. DH is a vegetarian, and he’s not going to eat off of animal bones. So I ordered these instead, at 1/10 the price:

My main goal is to avoid bowls that chip easily & would need replacing again in 3-5y.

Denied.

They took $30k less because the other offer didn’t have a building and pest inspection required.

Makes you wonder what they’re hiding.

Well that’s a bummer! Sounds like perhaps a blessing though.

Yeah it would have been great, the views to the north east were mint. Only drawback was no water source on the farm, had to rely on rainfall into dams and water tanks.

This other one which we also missed out on had two spring fed dams which was a reliable source.

Beaten by a cash in hand offer for that one.

Love the huge windows. The sink should be over there, I love looking out the window when washing dishes

That’s amazing.

But if they just imported it from Germany why are they selling it on Craigslist?!

Also, “sauna is BRAND NEW, NEVER USED” scares me a bit. Does it mean the first person to use it could become a steamed guinea pig?

Don’t be silly! That could never happen. A sauna uses dry heat. You wouldn’t be steamed–you’d be roasted.

See, this is proof that I need more direct experience to learn the ways of sauna. Too bad it’s a “best of” from a couple years ago!

Since I get pretty much everything I post in this thread… We got one of these as an early Christmas gift, I think we bought it for ourselves but I’m not clear on that. I understand their utility even more now. It is very very useful. :+1:
