Objects of Desire

I meant it’s not a $1000 dress, it’s $300 more than that :joy:

I bought a Roborock Q10 X5+ or something. I can’t remember all those letters and numbers. I think it’s being discontinued from Roborock’s lineup because it was on a very big discount. Anyway. We LOVE it. Her name is Cleo and she’s so good! She mapped everything lickety-split and she knows when she’s on the rug instead of on the pretend hardwoods (sounds better than plastic? I miss having real hardwood floors but oh well) and she talks to us in a British accent because Daughter told her to and she takes herself back to her dock and all the dirt gets sucked up into the receptacle. It’s nice having clean floors all the time now. The cats were hilariously terrified at first but they’ve already gotten pretty used to Cleo.

The carpeted stairs, sadly, remain a pain in the ass to clean. Long-haired black Dipper blesses each stair with clumps of fur that needs raking to come off. It’s Son’s job to clean the stairs so it’s usually dirty because he’s the worst at doing his chores. But the downstairs is good now, and I only paid $218 for the joy of the clean floors with very little effort.

Haha! this is perfect. Next time my daughter is over at your house, a quick exit can be provoked by saying “the robot’s going to start soon.” She’s terrified of ours. It’s a blessing and a curse.

Done anyone use an electronic countertop composter they can recommend? We are familiar with and have used many different composting methods. I’m looking for a “clean” indoor solution.

Totally!

I looked at them and it didn’t seem like they actually composted.

I have also looked into them and not heard particularly great things - that they take up a lot of space without offering much space inside for scraps and aren’t always good at actual composting.

Yeah they by definition don’t compost. They dehydrate and grind the food up so it takes up way less space in your compost. Wirecutter did a pretty comprehensive review: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/countertop-composter-food-recyclers

Wow that was scathing for Wirecutter.

Parent has a Mill and as noted above it mostly dehydrates/grinds (it’s not ash that comes out of it, but it’s definitely not compost either). Having said that, parent’s spouse is a pretty avid gardener and has been happy with the results from mixing the output in with their (outdoor) garden soil.

We decided to pay for compost pickup, and it’s nice because they take pretty much anything including meat scraps.

In return we get a bag of compost in the spring and fall.
