Not Today, Amazon

Where do you need to go while breastfeeding and what is your normal style of clothing? What you want if you are not working for the time you’re breastfeeding is a bit different to what you want if you’ll be out of the house working. But soft and boob accessible in a way that suits your personal modesty level is a good start.

Currently I work remotely from home (nothing to do with covid) and even on video calls it’s a very casual dress code. I wore a flannel shirt today and buttons are fancy.

Could change wildly if I join the OMD “quit my job” brigade though. I guess it also depends on how long I breastfeed – currently hoping for 6 mos but going to see what my body & baby allow. The next job I would want is a public sector job that has a lot more hassle and lower pay but hopefully more meaning too. One of those hassles is that it’s a return to mostly business casual but occasionally suits.

So 90% super casual, 10% suits.

Button up shirts with a nursing tank works very well for a lot of people, so that might be a good starting point for you and then you can buy more after you know what works when you’re actually nursing?

A floppy nursing bra (or no bra) and lifting your top up like it’s Mardi gras are good at home options. When I do wear a nursing top or otherwise attempt modesty, 4 month old :lion: helps by yanking my top up. I’d prebuy a couple of nursing bras or tanks and maybe one top (I like my wrap top better than the armpit access one).

Who will deliver good quality pajamas with pockets to my door? Apparently Target’s quality has gone to shit, judging by some of the reviews I was seeing on their own site. Since I’m ordering online and can’t examine the material/stitching for myself before purchasing I’m going to not order from them, I just don’t want to have to deal with returning items to them.

I don’t even want anything fancy! Basic cotton (and elastic I guess, I don’t know fabrics very well), black, pockets. Doesn’t have to be black but I tend toward boring block colors, not patterns.

Perhaps @Oro can custom make you some?

Hahah I mean I would! I don’t have experience in making for other people tho. It would be a crapshoot.

Lands’ End stuff is nice!

Hmmmm though checking out a few reviews the quality may have gone downhill. I did get flannel sheets from them last year and they’re nice. Maybe not as nice as they used to offer, but still better than Target? Also, the first listing shows a pajama set but apparently you only get the pants!

I just ordered some stuff from BetterWorldBooks.com

  • They mostly focus on used stuff but may also have new copies. Their inventory is not completely extensive. For example, looking at the popular series of kids books Magic Treehouse, they have a couple of them in the 20s and 30s but I can’t just buy 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the series.
  • When I was placing my order it automatically checked a box for me to pay $0.25 for carbon neutral shipping. I feel like it should be more than that, but okie doke. Also once you have the tax figured out there’s another check box for a donation to the Internet Archive and it rounds your order amount to the next dollar amount, so my $37.34 order rounded up to $38.00.
  • Items may ship from various places, most of my stuff is coming from their warehouse in Indiana and one item is coming from Texas. I’m curious how long it will take to show up because recently I ordered some things from Target and they showed up in two days (suck it Amazon! I’m not paying for Prime!) I’m in no rush, just curious. I will report back.

I’m doing this in lieu of using our local library. And also because I realized new books is one of the few “treats” I can offer Kiddo right now.

Edit: They also seemed to have quite a few Christian books. Looking through all their kid books I came across stuff like My First Communion and God Gave Us You and other stuff right on the first page. I didn’t really notice other religions being represented.

As a related note, some of what Better World Books sells is on behalf of libraries. We send them books we discard from our collection. They list and sell them and give us a (small) cut of the profits. We could get more by selling directly, but it is awesome to have someone else do the work, especially for small libraries.

How do I get the cheapest possible price for my textbook that is not on Amazon.com?

Did they use the same text book last year?

In the days when libraries were open, I got many textbooks that way. The school library doesn’t generally have copies of the textbooks used for class, but my university library is part of a local consortium and I could often find books I needed from other schools. None are circulating now, though, so this is not helpful.

For purchased books, I found some through betterworldbooks.

This site compares prices at various sites.

I have had good luck finding all of the textbooks I need on Alibris.

Renting textbooks is super stressful for me. I worry that I’m going at accidentally destroy them. To be fair, one time my apartment flooded and ruined an interlibrary loaned copy of a rare translation of a Russian book about insect evolution that I ended up having to pay $600 to replace (get apartment insurance kids!).

Anyone have a good source for Badia Sazon Tropical that doesn’t have insane shipping prices? With the pandemic we don’t want to traipse around to every grocery store known to mankind trying to get it (and we know our core stores don’t carry it). I don’t want to pay more for shipping than I’ll pay for the spice itself, which is what we’d do if we used the site the manufacturer links to. :frowning:

eBay or half price books?
