Get the PJ pants! That’s a good discount and it does seem like a need to me. Consider it the self-care your therapist is looking for lol. It’s cozy clothes season.

I am terrible and look at that and see the IKEA Hemnes with the top cut down to be flush with the sides. You could easily paint it the sage you mentioned. The tarva is another contender on solid wood (sustainably farmed!), But tends to come with very obvious wood markings.

I’m a big fan of finding the item I’m obsessed with and makes my heart sing and then figuring out how to get it without spending thousands of dollars.

Or buy it! If this is 100% the ONE and having that level of aesthetic perfection in your life everyday will bring you utter joy, do it.

That’s how I grew up. Currently I have a single fabric shower curtain that I bleach (though not frequently enough) with the rags. The mold-stained portion isn’t visible when the curtain is tucked into the bathtub.

Tris: Get the PJ pants. $34 is very reasonable.

Get the pj pants, you need at least one set of warm weather pj’s.

It was less than that for us to get someone local to build a huge bathroom vanity, custom, out of wood. I’d use the picture and get a custom piece from someone small.

I do think that if you’re happy financially it makes sense to fill your home with gorgeous things you’ll love forever. But I think that dresser has a brand name premium or something

Interesting, it recently cost me $900 for the cabinetry part of of a small vanity. And that was with minimal markup because my parents are in the construction business and got it added on to an existing order for one of their clients.

But, I will reconsider the hemnes (I don’t love the look of all the space between the drawers but I do like the four small top drawers), look around for small shops near me that might be willing to build something, and keep my eye on craigslist.

If you want flush drawers, the Tarva would work. Another solid wood Ikea contender.

I spend way too much time going through the Ikea catalog for someone not actively looking to purchase any furniture.

Next question: do I get the wine and cheese print on a red background, the spooky purple owls in a forest, or the glow in the dark eyeballs? I’d get the Jack Skellington but I already have something similar in heavy flannel :skull_and_crossbones:

Oooo the Tarva looks very promising!

Will you come to LA and paint it for me and pick out cuter drawer pulls (and help decorate the rest of the house while you’re at it?)

This one. Then you can match your treats when you lounge in them

Owls!

Would love to, but alas, COVID.

Can source drawer pulls and paint ideas from online though!

My husband made me fried rice for breakfast and I thought of this thread and the savory oatmeal debate :joy: I understand why he sees it as a breakfast food but I don’t. I ate some for breakfast but didn’t finish it. I will have the rest for lunch tomorrow.

I like this idea.

I decided on the owls because the wine glasses and cheese wedges had little cutesy smiley faces on them and I don’t really do cutesy. Purple spooky owls it is!

I just spent a lot of money on cat toys, but some of them I have plans to copy with the copious cardboard that comes through my house, and some I didn’t buy because I could already see how to make it.

I went looking at Pampoosic Mills (pompy.com) and even with selecting as simple as I could got $3,000 for a dresser. However, they have every year a sample sale (they used to have a seconds sale too, don’t know if they still do).

We managed to get a solid cherry coffee table for about $300, that would have cost us over $1,000 at the time (this is a while ago). Also, since what you’re looking for is basically really classic design, do keep the measurements, the wood, etc. with you and a tape measure. If you find such a thing, buy it.

I have the opposite problem. I have a 1950s gallery quality double dresser that my parents bought. It needs a little work, is solid oak, and either I have to do work to get it to look pretty again to get the value at auction OR I have to sell it “as is” and basically take < $400 probably for a $1,000, collectible dresser. It’s a Brown & Saltman with the mirror and I’ve never seen one with a mirror.

I’ve used this dresser my entire life. I’d like something different before I die, you know? It’s a wonderful piece, but I literally remember standing up one of the first times I did, holding onto the thing. I’m in my late 60s, right?

Thanks, I’ll keep eye out for sales there!

I think you should have the thing that makes your heart happy. Something new after a literal lifetime? Yes.
