So we went on a morning hike, and I think we’re both moving towards a more serious savings mode. Before we met, husboo was going to be single forever. So he became a guarantor for someone’s business loan. Max 52000. About a year ago we found out that things went south in the business. This week he got letters. Obviously he needs to talk to a lawyer about a few related things. But we’re going with the assumption that this is getting paid.

Good timing for getting daycare. I can dedicate time to both my in person work and some writing for easy sales funnels.

We still have some big expenses coming up, but it’ll work out

This is excellent news! I am so happy for you.

Also I am learning a lot about what to ask for if/when we get a car because catalytic converter theft is rampant in my neighborhood and I would be parking on the street. So, thank you for sharing your experiences, I didn’t know about the universal thing and that sounds like a good solution.

I failed at not spending any money at the Spirit Halloween store we accidentally found ourselves at today.

But my purchases make me really, really happy, so there is that.

we walked 5km to check out a yarn store I hadn’t gone to before, and once we got there, I realized I had no desire to actually go in.

On the way home I realized I really wanted pizza, and there is a local mini chain that set up their 3 location by us about a month ago. But I realized when I looked up the address just before we got there that they don’t open for lunch - just dinner.

And it seems my mindset is that if I’m home, there is very little justification for not using the food that is here. So I salvaged the zucchini and cilantro from the fridge (lost a bit to the composter, but not an upsetting amount), added some corn from the freezer, chopped up the last of the roast chicken from Thursday and added a maple-lime-chipotle dressing. Mix it all up with some feta and cheddar, top with pickled red onion, and we had very yummy tacos.

So glad for you! And what a good “fix” to the street theft vulnerability thing. Sounds like a mechanic worth keeping.

Got drinks at the show. Took the bus to poetry club and got a ride home from a buddy. Instead of pizza night on Friday, we went to see the new James Bond and had popcorn for dinner. Tickets were free because of a few stockpiled AMC giftcards, but we spent $10 on popcorn and M&Ms lol. Didn’t make it to the Container Store. Spent about $100 on 6 bras at Kohls, which more than surpassed my goal of under $150 for 2!! A good week overall, and super social!

Projected Spending Week of 10/11

My sister’s bachelorette is this weekend, so my goal this week is not to guess how much I will spend or set particular daily budgets, but rather to remind myself that I don’t have to get a drink at every single winery, or offer to pay for my sister’s share all the time (there will be 13 other people there to pitch in!!!). I will be getting refunded for the Vacasa house I booked back in May. The only thing we have left to buy is groceries, and we’re keeping it simple–grab and go breakfast options, light lunches of probably mostly charcuterie, pizza on Thursday night, Tacos on Friday. One dinner out where we will likely split the check evenly. I will also offer to pitch in for gas.

Monday thru Wednesday, I’m not making any plans. Saving up all of my social energy to make it through Thursday-Sunday. So a sort of low-to-high expected spend week, hopefully leaving me in the positive following house refunds and other shared expenses.

Our spending has been totally outrageous due to half needs and half cope wants. There’s the car repairs and uber which were unavoidable, the grocery delivery which was unavoidable, some medical costs sigh which were again unavoidable, some clothes for dh which were avoidable but IMO totally in line, and then some delivery food which was just…pure luxury stress spending.

I need to seriously clamp down now! I’m getting a bulk grocery delivery tomorrow and we have our car back so (knock wood) we should be able to spend very little on groceries for the next two months and hopefully do lots of free things for fun.

I am also lightly considering learning more about poshmark. I’ve posted one item and it hasn’t sold yet, but I think I underestimated how robust this site is and need to do more to promote it. I feel like I could get into a groove with it? And I think I’d be ok (morally) with only reselling my clothes/accessories and using that to fund my own stuff. IDK, maybe this is a dumb idea but I wouldn’t have to buy anything to begin and all it would cost is a little trial time.

I am also mulling a future part-time entrepreneurial idea for myself (not poshmark). I’m not sure if I want to share it here yet since I need more building up rather than ‘what if terrible thing happens?’ but…I think it’s a pretty good idea? It’s adjacent to an area I’ve been very interested in for years, but there is very little competition compared to the more popular area of this field. It reminds me a lot of my writing business in how I found a niche with more demand and less competition and in doing so side-stepped a lot of the “common” pitfalls of freelance writing (i.e. I’ve never had to chase down a client for payment, I don’t have to pitch bc clients come to me, I’ve never had someone pay late, etc.).

This is not a writing related job and I need to learn a lot more domain knowledge to be sure and evaluate but…maybe? It’s the first viable lead I’ve had in years and dh is supportive of it even though there are some significant start-up costs. He’s totally certain I can do it <3 which is really nice.

I don’t know what the thing is but you’ll only get support from me. You’re brilliant and thoughtful and I’m certain you will be successful at whatever you decide to take on.
