Money Saving Mindset- Group Journal

You’re all too nice. I think I just want to be able to answer questions/concerns confidently and it’s so new that I couldn’t right now? I want to think through the possible issues throughly and feel sure before I start taking on outside information, if that makes sense? But thank you!!! <3 I am excited to begin research and will def share if I decide to do it for sure.

a blue ocean niche adjacent to a popular space, and that you have been following for a while sounds like a good place to start exploring.

Happy to cheer you on and only ask that you remember me when you take over the world with your awesomeness. You got this!

Thinking of canceling my virtual gym membership. I feel guilty for doing so - it’s a small local gym and I really liked going there in person but that doesn’t feel safe, the space is so tiny and working out in a mask is hard for me.

Their online workout app just SUCKS, it freezes constantly and kicks me out. I end up frustrated.

I think the reason I feel guilty is that they were so flexible with me when covid hit - I had signed a year contract in Oct. 2019 not expecting a global pandemic. And they suspended my membership for most of 2020, not charging me, even though I didn’t fulfill my contract.

That’s a dumb reason to spend $30 on nothing, though.

I did a great job! My extraneous expenses were two bottles of wine–one for me, one for my mom. Already got my refunds, too, so I can tuck some money back into savings and pay off my credit card this week!

Projected Spending Week of 10/18

Monday: Bought a Beard Box for our anniversary. We’ll make the meal together during a Zoom class! Likely less than we would have spent had we gone out. $100
Tuesday: Dress fitting. Already paid for that! No spend day
Wednesday: Need to check if I’ve gotten my cousin a wedding present or not. Can’t remember! $200
Thursday: Talking to our wedding photographer in the evening. We have three meals planned this week and I think the leftovers should get us through Thursday, but if not, we’ll get sandwiches for lunch. $30
Friday: Cousin’s wedding in PA! Very early flight. Hoping to prep breakfast for the plane so we don’t get dumb airport food. Fiancé will probably get coffee. Pay for our hotel room when we get there. Maybe take out a bit of cash for bartender tips? Wedding is at 2:30 and will include a full Catholic mass, so we should definitely get snacks to tide us over til dinner. $150-?

Can you tell them the app isn’t working for you and ask if they have received similar feedback from others/might be working on a change?

Got a $6 sample of the new matcha le labo scent and now it is taking all of my willpower not to spring for the smallest full size, which is $86. It smells so nice!!!

I am also now realizing that I may have to pay for multiple wedding makeup/hair trials to find a vendor I like. Ugh.

Do you know what you’re looking for in a make up person/hair person?

Kinda? I have a Pinterest board going. Classic soft romantic…idk I feel like these words describe most wedding hair/makeup. Ye olde “I want to look like myself but better.”

ETA: I’d also prefer a large enough company that could do me, 2 bridesmaids (my sister and fiancés sister), our moms, and our 2 grandmas.

For my wedding I think there was two hair people and one make up guy, they did me, my mom, MIL, three brides maids, and technically the flower girl (hers was just a little bit of hair, I don’t remember if she got make up but if she did it was probably mostly pretend). They were all independent but in my area in the wedding business everyone knows everyone so they had worked together before. I did have a wedding planner who was able to block out the time and the place we got married was a historic B&B so we booked out a room as the bridal prep area, so it was just planned that if the wedding was at X time and the photographers were showing up at X time then the hair/make up people had to be done and gone by X time (maybe pad in some time here for things to go wrong) and they knew how long to estimate for that many heads.

Kid interruption.

I’m starting to make actual meals again AND we’re getting better at pies or cereal being our “exhausted dinner” food. I’ve levelled up in cooking and learnt how to cook chicken thighs.

Also considering cancelling Imperfect Foods. As it is, we skip every other weekly delivery now, sometimes we skip 2 in a row. We mainly had it because we didn’t feel safe going into stores and delivery was free (over a certain amount which we had no trouble spending) and they don’t take tips. Both of which were arguments against Instacart.

Reasons to cancel:

  • SO expensive! OMG. Since we’re regularly shopping at Aldi again I am noticing just how huge the difference is.
  • Limited selection. Lots of processed food and stuff I can’t eat.
  • This is sad but I am just REALLY excited about being able to pick out my groceries in person again. Mostly their picks were fine but sometimes we’d get something I wouldn’t have chosen.

Reasons to keep it:

  • If there’s another covid surge and going into stores becomes unsafe again, there is huge value in food just showing up weekly without us having to pay for delivery/tip.
  • When it’s 2 degrees out and the sidewalks are covered in ice, we are not going to want to walk to and from Aldi as we do now. This will help.
  • Boyfriend really likes their meat and there are some items we can’t find elsewhere that we really like (such as their naan).

I’m thinking we should at least keep it through the winter, at which point we (please universe!) will know whether we’re moving out of Chicago or not. I’m just disgusted by their prices though!

Chicken thighs rule! SO much harder to dry out than chicken breasts in my experience

Can you put it on pause while the weather’s still decent enough for ALDI walks and resume when ice/snow becomes a factor?

I’m not sure if I can pause it entirely? Right now we can skip individual deliveries so we’ve been just doing that. I’ll look into it.

I have heard that if you cancel, it can be hard to get it reinstated - but that was during full-on covid quarantine/stay home order times. I don’t know if it is still like that.

Mine shows a bunch of upcoming delivery dates, you can skip a bunch at once I’m pretty sure. You used to be able to at least, at one point I skipped like 6 weeks worth cuz my work schedule changed. :woman_shrugging:

Today I want to buy candles I definitely don’t NEED. I never NEED candles. But the honeycrisp apple candle I got at TJ’s a few weeks ago is almost toast
