Money moves for the new world?

If they start freezing/seizing assets, I don’t see a scenario where they don’t just demand our info from the banks and get it immediately. Sorry!

I would assume that anything they don’t have access to, they will have access to unless stopped. I know you are conservative in terms of risk not politics- so maybe increase your power out cash to a bug out amount of cash? As well as obviously keeping your food stash.

Things suck short term. I hope they don’t suck medium term and I trust they won’t suck long term. You know this forum is a place where we support you. Tune out the voices that are dragging you down

Yea that’s panic talk. (not to downplay it- I am ALSO full of panic).

He has the Social Security Administration info. But switching banks isn’t going to solve anything. Also your efund is not what he’s after. He wants the US treasury’s coffers not yours.

But IMO your energy is better used taking care of your mental health and calling your senators than transferring banks.

My most optimistic thought about this is that actually using the bank accounts of hundreds of millions of people requires an organized James Bond movie level of villainy, involving administrative skills that I do not believe these guys possess.

They will break things, but not in an organized or predictable way.

I saw this from one of the big accounts. Maybe the renegade park rangers?

It felt unnecessarily inciting to me. It we’re at the point where normal people’s bank accounts are getting raided everything is already too fuckt past anything mattering in regard to which bank it is.

What did you say we should print from SSA.GOV last night on the livestream? Just the “estimated taxes paid” by me?

Yes, I saw that too and was wondering what I was missing and if I was not panicking enough.

Your earnings statement and estimated benefits!

jeez, I apparently have never logged in to ssa.gov before, so it made me activate my account, which only took my name, SSN, and address, which I feel like is not enough information to prevent someone from creating my account first and locking me out. At this point there have been too many data breaches of major platforms that I assume my SSN is in several places on the dark web.

I am not moving bank accounts other than possibly to Germany but that is for other reasons, but I am rolling out my TSP and cashing out my FERS pension contributions. I think even those being messed with is unlikely, but I have no confidence that those will not get messed with and no one will care because it just affects federal workers. If there are any other former feds thinking about doing this, be aware that they will not let you do the rollover from the TSP website until 7 days after you input the bank information that you are rolling over to.

A lot of folks in my feed are saying to freeze your credit, and I think that was a good idea before all this (we’ve had ours frozen for years). Anyway, not that Musk wants my credit, but no telling where his interns are going to stick flash drives.

I have some ideas about where they can stick their flash drives…

Finally got my credit frozen, and working on freezing that of the minor child, which is far more onerous.

I did decide to stop contributing to retirement for the rest of the year. I may appreciate the relative stability of cash for other personal life reasons, and just not putting it in for a while (my match was cut in fall anyway) feels less drastic than pulling it out later.

Yeah, I think my rational for closing accounts would be not that musk and his merry band of children will steal your money outright, but that it’s no longer secure at all.

Alternative: open as many accounts as you can at banks of varying sizes and spread your money around them. Make it hard to find it all.
