Don’t think I’ll ever catch up

Up to Ep 3, some of 4 vacations

Thought Nana was a robot in the pods. A pod person, really.

Ayano probably needed to figure herself out before coupling up. We thought she was all about Shuntaro for the emotional aspects, until she talked about money. Then we were

Priya and Mizuki are a good looking couple (So far. Ha ha!)

I loved Midori’s energy while MvR can’t stand her. We worry she was too attached too fast and it’ll come out in relationship instability later. The business presentation was unusual and we did NOT expect Wataru to respond so favorably to it! But also we wonder if he was just so passive and let her push things forward.

We are researching booking a stay at Hoshinoya Okinawa.

Summary

What’s sad is that if he had been honest I think Priya would have still been on board. That he was working on learning in business and building himself up and that he loved that there were things she could teach them as they grew together etc.

mr. flan and I had a laugh over these. WHO IS MINATO!? WHO IS KYUSHU? WHAT ARE THESE BASED ON?

I was with her until the hoodie with the arm holes
and also, is that hair gel or deliberate styling with oil? I mean if latter, GOOD for her.

re: ep9

I had the same read on Minami! and agree. they definitely went super deep intense sleep-deprived DEEP conflict exploration, and they both had dayjobs! I do wonder if there was significant editing (or like, natural editing i.e. the cameramen were sleeping at 4am… LOL.) for them on crucial issues that weren’t surfaced, like the part about him not feeling supported on his dreams. what was that? wanting a stay-at-home-spouse, but she needed to be independent? did you come to a different conclusion on what the “big difference on values” was? (i mean, other than on how many clothes is OK to have

AND OMG Midori’s mom. SPOT ON, mom! “you are so arrogant!”!

but yeah I really don’t know about Midori. I’m surprised Wataru is just so OK with this bashing of his face and his “spare tire”. did they really talk about it honestly? I feel like Midori is always denying that she doesn’t find him physically attractive when she is talking with him, but way more open about it during the interviews without him in the room.

The thing is I feel like the show is so interesting to watch with partners because you can see the way people work or dont work through their problems!! Though LIB:J is much better than LIB for sure.

MrM was so busy it was easy for him to nope out.

omg so much better

what does this say about Americans?

I found it really interesting that the women initiated all the breakups. From my perspective they were letting the men take the lead the whole time, and when they decided it wasn’t working they called it.

Do I need to watch this???

I think it says a lot about our entertainment industry more than anything else. I have a lot of friends/acquaintances in the industry. Basically, American reality shows are focused on getting the most dramatic people possible and then creating extra drama on top of that. The thinking is that’s the only thing that draws viewers, but I think that’s starting to change since shows like the GBBO have become popular in the US. I think the UK is a good comparison, like their reality competition shows are usually very subdued compared to ours. It’s mostly casting. They try to cast people who are going to get along and be relatively normal. The opposite would probably be Gordon Ramsey’s UK shows, which are more American in terms of casting and all about shouting and drama.

YES! I thought you started for some reason

No, I watched the American one and think it’s possibly enough trash TV, even though the Japan one seems far less trash…

FAR less trash

Haha I’m so excited you’re joining in!

minami and mori

I saw some people interpreting it as “wanting a housewife” but I think he meant more, someone who doesn’t criticize his dreams? Like when he mentioned wanting to start a clinic abroad and she immediately replied that it was unrealistic. Or how she wanted immediately to get rid of all his clothes lol. I really liked Minami but she comes across as incredibly blunt (and judgmental?) in Japanese.

IDK. So much conversation that we missed!

midori

I loved Midori’s mom. She’s the true MVP.
And yeah, poor Wataru! He seems really chill about how mean Midori is about his appearance. IDK what’s going on there.

Oh gosh I forgot to update this thread when I finished watching.

whole series spoilers

THAT WAS A WILD RIDE.
WTF SHUNTARO. WTF AYANO.

I loved this show and I will eagerly watch another season.
