Emotional things are happening in the mid-to-late 30’s chapters and I’m PMSing and I’m not crying you’re crying.
I finished the book a few days ago and tooootally cried. I was lying in bed reading my Kindle with the lights off and just the Kindle light on, tears streaming down my cheeks.
It’s pretty hard not to cry at Little Women.
I’m reading the comments on it but turns out I have 0 time for reading right now. Ugh.
I just read the “March sister’s chat, Jo’s AO3 writing” and it was perfection chef’s kiss
Well I just had a very enjoyable 15 minutes
Just finished part one… I am hoping to get part two early next week
I might try to finish today. I was going to try and stay on-pace, but my library reduced my checkout limit due to current higher demand, so I need to make space in my inventory.
OK @Ckni27 what on earth kind of dress is Meg planning to make with twenty-five yards of silk?
Anything from that period with a full skirt and lining and god forbid ruffles could easily use that much
I was wondering that too! It’s a truly impressive amount of material…
To put it into perspective, my junior prom dress had a full poofy skirt and probably used at minimum 25 yards of gathered tulle, maybe 9 yards of lace overlay. Fabric is only so wide, so big skirts that are long (waist to floor) and also wide (hem circumference) so then you end up needing more yardage to make the design as well
I finished and I’m crying.
I didn’t think I was going to at all like this book. But I’m so attached to it now.
Yepppppppppppp
I keep having criticisms as I read it. But I love it so much. I guess that’s true of a number of books, now that I think of it.
I have just finished Part I.
My favorite aspect of the book versus the movie is that the book is in chronological order. The Christmas Day scene near the end of Part I - in the movie, I thought that was a dream that Jo had. I was surprised when that part seemed to end differently than in the movie.
The Gerwig movie definitely is less faithful to the book than other adaptations are – both for better and worse, imo.
I finished the book tonight. I like the book a lot better than the movie, so much got left out of the movie.
One of my favorite chapters was the one with John and Meg parenting the young kids.
I liked Bhaer a lot more in the book than in the movie.
That ending always seems to come out of nowhere! Jo says it’s been her dream to open a school for boys, but it’s not in the text until the last chapter. Still, it makes me feel so happy and warm and comforted.
Omg yes! I’m always like “what dream? when was this mentioned?!” and I get the feeling that Alcott may have pulled that ending out of nowhere… but it’s a warm n fuzzy ending for sure.
