I was influenced and figured we spend $9 on worse things! It just arrived today I’ll let you know what I think!

Yes! I’m so curious to hear what you think, @ginja_ninja ! I’ve had a few really good conversations already by posing some of the prompts to mr. flan and will be making some tweaks to the way we budget as well as reprioritizing where to spend money when we travel. Well-worth the $12 (the price when I purchased it) I had spent!

Who are the guests? I need to look up this episode and I don’t know if I can identify it by date.

Episode 280! Margo and Kevin

One of Ramit’s sponsors for today’s episode is the ladder app! That’s the workout app I use, and I love it!

Been seeing ads for it all over Chicago ft. Hillary Duff!

I liked the follow up today, I hope they keep working as a team. They seem scripted so I hope it’s real but they really did seem excited.

I think Ramit was a little too harsh in the beginning on them. In his defense some of the couples in the previous episodes have been really frustrating and I’m sure he was expecting more of the same and I’m glad it wasn’t.

I have been thinking about this woman all week. I hope she’s doing okay and she protects herself. If she’s a licensed stylist I feel she could build up a book of business especially when the youngest is in school and support herself (esp with child support). I actually think her life would be improved by divorcing this guy, and I hope that her church community would provide her support and a place to lean, but I’m worried they wouldn’t and would tell her to stay with her useless husband to ā€œsave the marriageā€

I’m glad he said fuck being polite and spoke directly to her

Ok, thanks. I did see that episode.

What I remember from it is that they have one vacation house and she’s desperate to build another one. Insanity.

This morning DH and I listened to today’s episode while driving to and from the hospital. It was extra interesting because their annual income is almost exactly the same as ours. One eye opening thing was the couple had spent over $9k eating out this year and they taped in August. Plus $2k per month for groceries (or that’s what they put in their CSP). I checked and our groceries + eating out through August was less than $9k :joy: I couldn’t eat out that much if I tried!

It wouldn’t be hard for us to do that—eating out is so expensive these days. Like one meal is $100-$150. And we don’t have kids who eat a lot! Especially if you add drinks. It is super confusing that they spend a lot eating out AND spend a lot on groceries. There’s gotta be a lot of food waste happening??

The guy in this couple really pissed me off and I hope he goes to therapy

A good discussion that came from this week’s episode for us was ā€œwhat are our money philosophies and rulesā€

The episode was frustrating but the follow ups were good. We agreed that they need a rule of ā€œif we say ā€˜we can figure it out later’ then the answer is no, we figure it out right now or we don’t buy itā€

Yes, DH and I said that he needs therapy and his dad really messed him up.

Ugh this is my family. We live in walking distance to so many good restaurants! And are in a community with other wealthy people who are like ā€œwant to take the kids to [insert fancy restaurant here] this weekend?ā€ It just adds up. We actually aren’t terrible on food waste but we like to host friends a few times a month (which replaces an even more expensive trip to a restaurant) and always pay for the whole thing. I dunno - I have a lot of shame around it but also a lot of FOMO when we miss out on social thing.

Oh no judgement from me, I totally get it. We have so many good restaurants in my city and I’m missing out on most of them :sob:

I was going to say… I totally could :joy:

Well, considering celiac means I can’t eat at 99.9% of restaurants :joy:

I also hate low LONG it takes to eat out. You have to leave the house and drive to the restaurant and then you wait to be seated and then you wait to be able to order and then you wait for the food to come out and then you finally get to eat. It takes like 3x as long as just cooking and eating at home.
