I just listened to this episode… I think she’s not cursing but they’re bleeping out the kids’ names. Unless his name is FF or something ![]()
Yes agreed. But she was rude about him. Said something like, “he’s not studious” or “academically inclined” I can’t remember the exact words
LOL, I realized that after I posted, but she seemed almost contemptuous about him and the college-aged kid. It just didn’t make sense. I get that she’s feeling overwhelmed financially and five kids is a lot (I was one of five). If I were her (and him), I’d be embarrassed to put that discussion online.
Yes for sure. There was definitely some contempt going on.
OMG – their follow up? Moving deck chairs around on the Titanic.
The guy is in import/export. Between tarriffs and elevated shipping costs this year there is very little chance they are going to have a good year financially. And now the property market is tanking due to interest rates and the general economy, so little chance they could get top dollar for either property if they did decide to sell.
Glad to not be them…
Me, every time Ramit asks someone how often they check their finance tracking app

Apparently most people don’t according to the recent data? Apparently my monthly net worth calculating is way too frequent? I check my budgeting app daily or every other day
FWIW I think those people often mistake checking the app or whatever with having a financial plan. Like they think looking at it a lot will fix their issues. It’s different if you’re having fun and hitting goals and stuff!
I check my budget app every month (more or less, depending on cash flow and anxiety levels) but try to only do my net worth every 3+ months. The best investment accounts belong to people who forgot about them, or are dead, so I try not to pay attention!!
@Economista he’s now looking at their spending!! It is a monarch sponsorship but I’m curious how this episode will go.
I’m 3 minutes in so have no insight ![]()
This couple is headed toward divorce, I think. He really doesn’t seem to accept that he needs to close the business and get a steady job. The amount and type of debt is staggering. And now that she’s seen the truth, I’m not sure she can unsee it. Sad, but hopefully she can create a less stressful environment for herself and the kids because she does seem more able to live within a limited budget. And if he’s required to pay child support (possible) post-divorce, at least she’d know what that amount would be.
The part where Ramit asked if he ever asked her questions. About anything. At all. Made me very sad
I felt badly for her; she was so honest about her feelings and it was painful to hear. I just don’t think he has the capacity to change. And the fact that there was no follow-up…
Yeah and I don’t want to pin it all on the guy, she co-created that dynamic, but ouch
I felt at the end that Ramit was actually encouraging her to divorce. When he said that he didn’t think her spouse would ever change and that she needed to protect herself and her children.
I did appreciate that Ramit could view their finances and that he called out when they were wrong! Like putting $0 for car expenses but then he pointed out all of their gas and car wash charges! And pointing out that the income listed didn’t match the income hitting their accounts! I hope he continues that.
Does anyone else have Ramit’s My Rich Life workbook?
It’s making me feel uncomfortable in a good way about my money goals, and I kind of love it.
I don’t! Is it a download or an actual book?
@ginja_ninja it’s a physical journal/workbook which I actually kind of love! this week I spent about 30 minutes each morning sitting on the patio with a cup of coffee and the journal just flipping through and deciding which topics I wanted to work on and invited mr. flan to also share his answers to help envision our “rich life” together!
Amazon link for $8 or “very good” copy selling on eBay for $7
It sounds super interesting. Do you think I would find it helpful if I’m interested in the vibes but haven’t consumed his other content?
I think it works as a standalone and is my favorite of all the things he’s made, but I would probably also recommend reading his main book I Will Teach You to be Rich OR Money for Couples as a companion to prime yourself to get even more out of it. Or maybe try the workbook, and if you like it, then grab his book from the library, too! $7-8 for even one life-changing realization feels like a steal
