Habituary 2021: Do something every day of February

Good progress getting the sink clean overnight…ended up with two caveats, the if-dish-needs-to-soak one noted above, and also if I make a cup of tea to have in bed while reading, I’m not going to worry about getting up and washing it out before I fall asleep.

my compliance is being sucked up by PT, but I think I’ve still done things more than I would otherwise

I’m quitting lol. I have no doubt I’ll have 28 less things by the end of February but there’s no point to circling around this daily :woman_shrugging:.

I didn’t do exercise last night. I got busy and only remembered at 10:30 in bed. But I have done today and did all other days.

I have practiced Spanish on Duolingo every day and been tracking my Spending.
Have not meditated every day.

Hopefully will do better this week

I didn’t get my PT in today, but I’ve had weeks where it’s been shifted. Still plan to get my three a day in. And I got outdoor playground play date time with Also Vaccinated Neighbor, which was really good for all of us. And Latte and I got 1.5 hours of outdoor time in pretty good weather (cold but not bitterly, and somewhat clear) so I think it was well worth the trade!

BUT, I really need to make sure I PT tomorrow. My checks marks on white board below the days food plans has been working well.

Still enjoying my planner.

Excellent things that have come from this:
I love my pens on this paper. It’s a joy in itself and also because I’m enjoying it so much, I’m writing more things to do down and doing them :scream:. I cleaned the shower glass today!

I also made an actual note of the train timetable in my notebook so now I know when the trains arrive and on what platform. They come regularly enough that I can get away with strolling up to the station whenever but knowing what time get actually get there for the most convenient platform is :ok_hand:

Week 1: Success! Dishes done before bed every night, whether I wanted to or not.

Putting away clean dishes (not part of the basic habit) has been an issue, though. On the 31st, I loaded and ran the dishwasher and did a bunch of handwashing so I could start off the month with clean dishes. Then before bed on the 1st, I realized I hadn’t unloaded the dishwasher. I decided it was faster/easier to handwash all the day’s dishes (not many) than unload the dishwasher. I did do that the next day, but the handwashed dishes have been piling up on the drainer every few days this week.

I’m trying to add “putting away” to my washing routine for week 2. Today I did that while waiting for pasta water to boil.

I hate unloading the DW and drying rack. It seems ridiculous… It’s clean dishes, it’s less gross than loading/washing! But…it’s annoying and repetitive! And unsatisfying because nothing is really cleaner at the end! And something is always still damp and drips unexpectedly on the dry stuff.

Fortunately, I live with someone who often shoulders this burden for me, and I can reciprocate by loading!

Pomsquad class last night. Not sure what I am doing today. I’ll come up with something. I really do better with structured classes, I would do one every day if they were scheduled and I could afford it. (Though, at some point my body would say no to that.)

Unloading is the WORST, my tupperware is never dry and I always have a zillion of them in there. I have to dry every single little crevice where water gathers and it’s so annoying.

I am the opposite of you. Luckily my husband and I match up on it. He’d rather load than unload because of sound sensitivity :woman_shrugging:

I pile it in the drying rack. While dripping all over the kitchen and mildly self-loathing.

I’ve always just let my dishes air dry in the cupboard. Am I causing damage to something or is this one of those dishes things that people have strong feelings about?

I’ve been moving on purpose everyday. I liked the outside days better (and moved more), but I’ve opted out due to the cold temps and icy walkways. Some days the movement is a small thing like “hey I need X thing” and actually getting or doing it if it means moving. Sanitizing the handrail after the painter leaves means I’m going up and down stairs, so I’m gonna do that. I’m also moving my laptop to our buffet to work for a bit so that I stand and work. I go upstairs to ask my husband something, instead of just yelling to him from downstairs. So far, so good.

You’re trapping moisture in a fairly enclosed space (unless open shelving?) … My mom’s voice says mold! germs! Also don’t you have nasty puddles of sitting water when you take dishes out?

I have on occasion run out of f*cks and put a damp glass away. Sometimes I still have a fractional (perhaps imaginary or complex) f&ck to give and I get a towel out for drying.

I would worry about warping and rotting out the cabinets (but I live in the PNW where everything is at risk of rotting except for like two months in the summer… and even then, with enough shade you’re in trouble). Not to mention funky mildew smell. Unless you have those super cool slotted bottom cupboards meant for them, but even then I worry about the lack of air flow.
