Top shelf is tea, middle shelf is sweet/baking, bottom shelf is savory/herbs. All in mismatched, often reused containers with minimal labeling. Mr krmit gives me a lot of shit for this cabinet.
EDIT, and below the cabinet on top of the microwave is my empty jar storage
To “standardize” my spices I bought a lot of Trader Joe’s ones, and refill those jars haha. $1.99 per, and you get the spice and it’s already labeled, so it’s not a bad deal. But as you can see, I still have weird sized containers because some things I just use way too much for the tiny ones. I was forced to get it more in order when SirB started cooking more, since he didn’t know what and where everything was
Okay, I’m sharing my pantry storages. A couple things to know:
-my inner bag lady largely manifests as fears of food insecurity.
-I grew up with a country family, so “putting up food” is second nature. Even though I don’t can much anymore, that “prep for the year” mentality is there.
-I have a very large house now.
-not to get too prepper, but I’m the fall back location for both my brothers families if anything happens. We keep a higher par if items now for them.
-we DO go through all this! I use rotation like a grocery store does lol. Nothing here is getting wasted.
-in addition to what you see here, we have two unopened 20lb bags of rice in the garage.
My freezer is completely full at the moment after all the meal prep I’ve done (we’re having a baby imminently!) Bottom shelf is pre-made meals and snacks (scones, sausage rolls, shepherds pie, breakfast burritos, empanadas, mini chicken pot pies). Top shelf is a mix of frozen raw meat, frozen cooked meat, berries, and worm food scraps on the far left. Oh, and some frozen milk to make yogurt at some point in the future.
The fridge is mostly empty since we’ve been eating it down…just some sour dough starter/flour, a stockpile of cheese in the drawer and oatmilk/almond milk on the bottom shelf. Yes, we keep nut butters in the fridge, it’s where we have the most space.
I love this idea! Here is our food storage: spices, indoor pantry, garage pantry, big freezer and fridge. I usually keep the fridge very organized but that’s something I’ve been leaving up to Me E so it’s definitely not up to my standards right now
I had one of those spinning racks with uniform jars that I got from a thrift store, but it took up a lot of counter space and was not better, so moved the uniform jars into the drawer. We do have to transfer the spices from the store into the uniform jars a lot of the time, however, that just encourages us to buy more spices in bulk!
Ok firstly, I hate you all and your amazingly organised and tidy cupboards.
Here is my rats nest of a cupboard and the fridge I store things in until it’s time to throw them out.
In my defence I ain’t got time for organising after doing the shopping, cooking, cleaning and working.
He is usually not able to read them. They are technically alphabetized, but that doesn’t help (I have them memorized but I use then a lot more). Usually he puts his hand on one and I look over and tell him (2 up, 1 to the left, etc). If he wears his glasses, uses the magnifier on his phone, and the phones flashlight app he can usually get there himself.
Yes - and technically we have one, but hasn’t come up with a code that he would remember yet - because he can’t fit the whole name on each lid, so he would need some kind of abbreviation! The rest of our kitchen is covered in tactile dots to help him find what he needs
Imperfect Foods delivery. I am annoyed that we got 2 unwanted substitutions: instead of cheddar cheese and corn tortillas, we got chicken wings and lentils. Boyfriend will eat the wings but I already have a ton of lentils. Oh well.
This all cost $61!!! That is obscene. But it’s a lot of meat, and their meat is not cheap. He got shrimp too, $$$$$
Here is my stash. It is in bins because until recently it was in the basement, and also we cannot put much in our walk in pantry asnit has no door and thus is a cat playground. Pantry use ended the night that the cats tore open a box of baking soda and spilled it everywhere. At 4 am.
We ditched our whiteboard in the last move. I wish we still had it. I now rely on paper lists, including an “Eat This Shit Soonish” list magneted to the front of the fridge.
Everyone’s spice cabinets are so nice. Mine is a mess so no one gets to see that. But here are my home canned goods:
This one is tomatoes and jam. (ETA and pie filling!) The cabinet goes all the way back to the right so there is a bunch you can’t really see. Less full than normal as I didn’t get to go to any u-pick farms or run around the city chasing cheap fruit sales.
Don’t worry, ours is a mess too, I’ll post in a few hours.
I tried Zooper dooper a couple years ago and can’t stand them any more - favourite was cola. Now we get the Berri juice ones (I prefer apple) or make our own.
